Confessions of a Recovering Perfectionist
A Research Paper By Caryl Earwaker Luethy
Transformation and Resilience Coach, SWITZERLAND
If perfectionism were classed as our latest worldwide epidemic, which has pandemic proportions, we could check the appropriate boxes, gain a better understanding of who we are, and take some time to recuperate. Unfortunately, being a perfectionist is not so easy and is frequently a limitation that goes unnoticed. My eyes, ears, heart, and soul have been tuned to a different frequency as a result of this Case Study and the research for my Power Tool for ICA, Perfectionist versus Optimist, and I have seen that the Perfectionist topic frequently comes up in coaching and in other conversations.
“That’s How It Is” vs. Choice a.k.a Culture vs. Choice
A Coaching Power Tool By Ruth Kwakwa
Young Adults Coach, GHANA
This “That’s How It Is” vs. Choice power tool, also known as Culture vs. Choice, is used in coaching with the intention of encouraging the client to move away from a disempowering “That’s how it is” perspective. The goal is to empower clients to exercise their power of choice so they can take control of their lives, have more choices, and grow and find fulfillment. What would coaching look like if it provided clients with the awareness and space to transition from believing that they are constrained by their culture to having a completely open mind? A decision that fosters empowerment, grants agency to clients, instills a sense of responsibility and accountability, and leads to growth.
CHOICE: Adulting With Choice, and for Choice
A Coaching Model By Ruth Kwakwa
Young Adults Coach, GHANA
The goal of my CHOICE coaching model is to empower older teens and young adults to make their first big decisions and navigate them into their 20s and beyond. With choice-focused coaching, they will be able to understand, examine, and even challenge some of the inherited norms, and to reframe and broaden their understanding of choice. Making decisions as they enter adulthood will allow them to take responsibility for their choices and actions as they become more independent.
Perfectionist vs. Optimalist
A Coaching Power Tool By Caryl Earwaker Luethy
Transformation Coach, SWITZERLAND
We will examine two different types of Perfectionist vs. Optimalist in this Power Tool: the classic negative form of the Perfectionist and at the other end of the continuum, the positive form of a Perfectionist, which is an Optimalist. We can still achieve great things if we accept and celebrate our shortcomings. This idea will help us to be more resilient and to continue forward as Optimalist. My counseling goal is to provide clients with a safe haven where they can discover their true selves and inner knowledge, break free from the mask of perfectionism, and move on, feeling free and inspired.
