The Positive Intelligence model helps parents identify and control their emotions before reacting to their children’s behavior. Because they choose to respond more positively, parents who can self-regulate their emotions are better able to handle parental conflicts and challenges, protecting both the parent and the child from mental breakdowns. A framework model called “positive intelligence” combines performance science, cognitive psychology, positive psychology, and neuroscience. Similar to strengthening muscles at the gym, positive intelligence supports and trains the brain to be more positive. According to recent research on neuroplasticity—the brain’s capacity to change even in adulthood—people are rewiring their brains as they acquire new habits.
