Last month, I talked about the importance of having your business listed in local directories so people can find you. This month I want to focus on social media. As a coach you really must be on linkedin which is like an online interactive CV which connects you to all your professional contacts. The reason you want to be on linkedin is because it will rank on page one of google when someone types in your name. It’s a way for people to check you out, clients to endorse you and write testimonials and a place where you can join groups where your prospects hang out.
So if you are a small business coach for example you would join small business groups on linkedin, participate in group discussions, build relationships with people there and eventually get business and referrals. It’s the equivalent on online networking. Only join one group at a time, see if it fits then the following month join another group. You don’t want to get too overwhelmed plus each time you join a group, your activity status is updated so spreading it out means you will get new activity for your linkedin account each month.
Linkedin works best for coaches targeting professionals – eg executive coaches, small business coaches, entrepreneur coaches and leadership coaches. For life, parent or spiritual coaches, facebook is the better social media channel for you. More on that next month.
