How Do You Get More Confident as a Coach?
For new coaches, one of the biggest blocks to confidence is doubt in oneself. We might worry that we do not have enough experience or education. We might feel like a fraud or an imposter. I mean, what if, at some point in the session, we don’t have an answer, or don’t know what to say?
Let’s answer that question with another question.
What if our value – and therefore our confidence, were based on our resourcefulness and creativity rather than our competence? When you choose your work or education or even your partner you likely lacked some of the needed competencies but you had the confidence that you could be successful. You believed in your ability to make something happen, against the odds, to overcome obstacles and solve the problem.
When we think of confidence in this way it becomes so much easier to step into doing something new or different.
So the secret then is to act like a child.
Children are naturally confident and endlessly creative. Have you ever seen a child want something? They keep asking until they get it. It doesn’t matter if it’s an expensive bike or a new video game. They are genius at influencing their parents or anyone else who can help them get what they want!
We are all naturally like that, but somewhere along the way, people started opposing our actions.
The good news is that you can tap back into that confidence.
Trust yourself and continue to move forward. Ensure you have a support team working with you to achieve the success that you wish. You might even consider working with a coach.
