Most clients come up with an idea of what they want to achieve. As coaches, we know that most of the things they need are waiting for the right time to grow in their hearts. The work is in refining the goal (peas or beans?), creating the vision, uncovering purpose and beliefs, and dealing with any tensions that get in the way of moving ahead. In fact, the stages may not always happen in perfect succession, just as we sometimes have long winters and early springs, or forget to weed them in time but the cultivate coaching model is flexible enough to cope with this situation, and rich sources of images and analogies can create interesting and instructive coaching conversations.
