For this research paper, I decided to interview Bruce Sacerdote, an economist from Dartmouth. His paper, written with Scott Carrell, is titled Why Do College-Going Interventions Work? and focuses on “college-going interventions.” Though this isn’t what I call it, this is essentially what my coaching is as a Student Empowerment Coach.

As a coach, the idea of trepidation vs. confidence can look many different ways, depending on what the client brings to you as the coach. In the context I have seen the most, the client comes in with a problem or an idea that they aren’t sure how to resolve or act on.

When coaching younger students as they explore their next best steps, it’s important to remember this is their climb and their ladder. It will look different for each of them. Because the students (high school-aged, typically) I work with will have other people to consider, such as parents or guardians, they may not be alone on this ladder.
