The more I write about the power tool Rejection vs. Connection, the more I realize how lacking self-love and self-esteem is the perspective of rejection. I understand the link between a person’s thinking and their love of themselves. How we perceive ourselves is influenced by how we are interpreting the world around us. Coaching in its various forms naturally leads us to a growth attitude. A useful way to foster connection is coaching. A perspective of connection might help us be willing to confront our reality and open to change while yet being able to manage our emotions. I will always be grateful for my coaching career.

Helping Clients Explore Guilt

This research paper discusses coaching techniques that can be used to help clients examine non-chronic guilt, including definitions, the experience of guilt, associated common beliefs, and coaching practices. Gilt is a useful feeling that can be used to identify actions that may be detrimental to others or inconsistent with one’s morals. In this case, it can be beneficial to admit and examine your guilt so that you can let go of it and take positive action. However, sometimes, people have thoughts about their actions that make them feel guilty about things that aren’t actually wrong. This essay is based on recurring themes discovered during coaching sessions with my clients and outside sources.

Mindset is a noun, /mn(d)set/. A predetermined opinion held by someone. Our mindset is the lens through which we process reality. An individual’s collection of thoughts, values, and beliefs determines her or his thought habits. Our feelings are produced by thought. Behaviors are produced by feelings. Our actions determine the outcome. A diverse perspective produces different sensations and behaviors, which in turn produce varied outcomes. People can consciously alter their thinking by reflecting on it and adopting new, more helpful ideas.

This power tool Overwhelm vs. Meaningful Steps examines a paradox raised by some clients: when they want to take action, they are inhibited. Although the client is motivated to take action, feelings, and beliefs about taking action to prevent them from doing so. Exploring the client’s feelings and ideas about climate change and reconnecting them to a more personal purpose helps the client adjust his or her sense of agency. The topic of climate change in particular exposes the dehumanization of action, which often leads people to believe that they must execute them perfectly or they are not doing well enough. This idea partly explains the feeling of overwhelm that many people encounter.

The client is a fellow ICA student. For a few weeks, we’ve been peer coaching. She is putting together her portfolio. She displays tiredness when it comes to working on her ICA portfolio, and as a result, she procrastinates on it. She wishes to explore what she requires in order to summon the confidence to confront her work when motivation is weak. This event is a big issue for her since procrastination causes her to work at the last minute, which forces her to complete a lot in a short amount of time. Understanding and fighting procrastination and motivation can be built such that even if an experiment fails, it will add value to her objective and contribute to her learning.

Journey vs. Destination

Coaching can be used with a victim mentality client as a sounding board, but it can also be used to partner with a client to realize their thinking patterns and limitations, and whenever they are ready to take some actions to change the course of their life. Clients who have a victim mentality may need a coach who is compassionate and acknowledges that they have been through some traumatic events. They may object to being judged or labeled as a victim.

I want the clients to feel, they are in a safe place where they can leave their problems behind and where they will not be judged for saying what is really on their minds. When clients trust their coach, they relax and are more open to delving deeper into their thoughts, which may lead to decisions and action. I want to make sure that my clients feel comfortable sharing whatever is on their minds with me until they are ready to move on.
