In the past year, I have seen major changes in the lives of many people in this pandemic. People and companies who can find opportunities in obstacles create growth for themselves and their communities. This idea of turning obstacles into opportunities was an important part of my personal growth last year. The locked-in barriers created an opportunity for me to get certified as a coach without having to bear the extra pressure of supporting my family. It is the reframing of Obstacle vs. Opportunity that enables people to feel more in control of their lives and cope with the issues at hand.

There will be detours in the road trip of life, and without proper support, they will prevent you from reaching your destination. Preparation can get you so far, then navigating and responding to the obstacles in your path takes over. With the special support of the coach, you can overcome these obstacles and create an unforgettable trip. Some detours can be planned for miles in advance, while others are unforeseeable and require quick reactions. This is why I use the journey model. Just as there are many observable steps to a journey, the same is true about our daily lives. The Journey model is built for major changes or decisions in life and is highly scalable to help make smaller changes.

Clients often make evaluations about their behavior, which can lead to self-judgments and assumptions that are not useful. Phrases, like “I am stupid”, or “I am a procrastinator”, “I should have done this or that” are disempowering. Using the difference between Observation vs. Evaluation helps to show customers that their behavior is a problem, and their behavior does not define them because it can be changed.
