6. Play the ‘Choose your Perspective’ Game:
This exercise simply involves picking up a situation that you don’t quite like/ you absolutely hate. Example- A conversation I have with my mom.
Next step is to remember the statement that qualifies the situation to make it to the unpleasant ones. Example – I hate it when my mom criticizes me by saying “You should have done it in a ‘blah blah’ way, then it wouldn’t have resulted into this”
The game is about choosing your perspective, so one can think of all the possible meanings this statement has:
- Mom always criticizes me, cuz I’m never perfect for her
- Mom always has to share with me her way of doing things. She never lets me be.
- Mom is really concerned about me & wishes the best for me. She would always be happy to see things going well for me.
Tip:
This may not be as easy it seems, yet it’s a matter of practice. One should play this game, whenever any situation/ any statement starts to irk you.
