Study Results:
The results were obtained and analyzed. First objective was to identify as to where are the highest gaps between ‘aspirations’ and ‘current status’. The second area was to identify attributes in which their ‘aspirations’ were the highest. After this, a deep dive was taken to understand differences in responses between gender, size of Organization, age, work experience, levels in the organization, etc. Further follow up interviews were done with some of the respondents to understand their perspective of the ratings that have been given.
Analysis of Aspirations vs. Current Status:
As mentioned above, respondents were asked to rate their ‘current status’ in each of the 15 attributes in a scale of 1-10. Similarly they were asked to rate their ‘aspiration’ (to be status) level on the same attributes in the scale of 1-10.
An analysis of overall responses shows that they have highest aspiration (rating of 9 or above) and highest gaps (between aspirations & current status) in the areas of:
Highest aspirations were noticed in 5 areas as shown in table above. It’s important to note that in ‘Ethics & Values’ though aspiration level was high, but further analysis revealed that there was no significant gaps reported between ‘aspiration’ and ‘current status’. An important finding is the identification of top 4 areas where the gap is highest as shown in the table above.
Further insights were obtained by analyzing data from different perspective viz. gender, function, company size, age, work experience and organization level. In the detailed analysis, noticeable gaps were identified in 9 attributes only out of total 15 attributes mentioned n the questionnaire. These 9 attributes include 5 given below in addition to 4 shown in table above:
Detailed analyses of results giving different perspectives are summarized in the enclosure.
Coaching Awareness:
Survey results show that awareness about Executive Coaching is low among the respondents – only 31% of the respondents have heard about Executive coaching. Even this group has heard about Executive Coaching recently which was confirmed by a follow up question. Understandably, only 28% respondents answered to the question ‘When did you first hear about coaching?’ Out of this small group (only 28% of the total respondents), only 39% had heard about it in the past 1 year while 27% had known it for more that 3 yrs.
Penetration of Coaching among the staff is abysmally low. To the question “Have they experienced Executive Coaching? only 28% responded (probably the same who have heard about coaching – referred in the para above), and, out of this group, only 12% had experience Executive Coaching.
Probing further, ‘Are you open to idea of undergoing executive coaching?’ it is heartening to note that about 96% said “yes’ or “may be’ to the question.
“What has been their experience with Executive Coaching? only 3% responded to this question and shared their experience. Some of them had a few coaching sessions as part of their MBA curriculum or some management training program, while only 1 had an exclusive session with a coach. They had only 2-3 sessions of 1-2 hrs.
