reframing self-perception (facing the fear of enclosed spaces).
Please let me to share my 3-session coaching experience with one of my clients. I think it is a good example of self-exploration, recognizing the underlying beliefs and work with actual beliefs and situation. It shows how nonlinear could be the flow of the coaching process and how patient, gentle, curious about the client and attentive attitude of a coach can help to unravel the situation.
Background information
Alice (name changed to protect my client’s identity) is a 35-years old mother of 3 wonderful children, the youngest among them is 6 months old. She is in the maternity leave at the moment and planning to come back to work in a year. She works for a governmental institution and is a good specialist in her area. Alice doesn’t know if she wants to come back to the same job post, she mentions that the best job in her life was in private sector, when she could rule her business life, take decisions, be responsible for her income and development. In opposite, she likes her job in governmental sector because of her duties, she is developing IT and communications processes. She recognizes that there could be good promotion options only if she could go on business and experience exchange trips. Alice understands that working in the governmental sector gives her the sense of protection and confidence about the future.
Alice has a wonderful and supporting husband, who helps her with their children a lot and motivates her to continue self-development events. Alice has recently started to take English language lessons by Skype and is studying the theory course for driving license. Alice decides to hire a coach to get clear about the direction in her life.
The Goal
The first goal she mentioned is getting clear with her job, should she come back to the same position or find something else.
