So how does all this relate to coaching? First, all these remarkable discoveries from the last decades are extremely empowering. They provide space for discernment and development of new approaches, tools and exercises working with the different brains and levels of the mind. Tools to map out the areas of the brain that are compatible with the consciousness from the non-compatible ones, allow for developing superior trainings or tools to further the precision of distinguishing them apart and retrain them.
Dr. Barbara Arrowsmith-Young[16] a publishing author, the Creator and Director of Arrowsmith School and Arrowsmith Program was born with a serious mental block. Her condition was so serious that she could have endangered herself. She would get lost in her own apartment. She could not tell the time as she was not able to understand the relationship between the arms of the clock. The whole side of her body was totally alien to her control as she kept on hitting things and injuring her self. She was equally unable of normal cognitive processes while her memory was dysfunctional. Her brain as a TV set, was not at all able to perform normal functions and could only to a limited extent properly translate her Consciousness coming through.
The only advice she got from mainstream medicine and scientists at the time was to accept her condition and learn to live with it. Being a remarkable person, she began developing exercises to retrain her brain slowly step by step. First, she learned to read time, then oriented herself in time and space, finally she managed her alien limbs, manage her memory and other cognitive abilities to the extent she was able to graduate at the university and even to become a PhD.
Barbara is THE example of how one can transform their limited brain capabilities with step-by-step techniques and retrain them to what is given as granted to most of the world population. It is remarkable however to observe that regardless her mental block that made her life and awareness of the time space so confusing and incapable of her living a normal life, she was able to somehow get out of that confusion into the clarity of the stream of consciousness and to understand this is just what happens to her body and she has the power to heal or overcome that.
This is truly empowering to all normal, average healthy people and has significant importance for coaching. We can do so much more, once we desire to higher up our standards or to listen carefully to our stream of consciousness flowing through our being. This awareness is of great importance to better perform and to achieve outstanding results and lastly to live purposeful authentic life – PAL.
In Coaching it is presupposed that the client is the expert and is mentally healthy. Coaching my clients is not at all facing the challenges that I have described above. It’s worth mentioning though certain methods and exercises could be usefully utilized to assist clients in owning their life experience to free themselves from the limitations caused by brain distortions. Relaxation, Meditation, Visualization, Altered states of conscious awareness all have the effect of lowering the Body Pulse Rhythm (BPR) and thus lowering the frequency rhythm of the brain.
It is interesting to point out how more resourceful people can be when their brains work at a slower pace. It is that when we run our brains at the lower pace, we are able to access more of our resources.
Dr. Michael Newton and Dolores Cannon in their hypnotherapy sessions managed to alter their clients mind and dramatically suspended the conscious mind (left brain) to allow access of another level, the superconscious mind which holds memories of even previous Earth lives and lives in between lives as spirit. This level of mind is apparently able to translate Consciousness even more accurately, probably by bypassing the brain.
Why do we have a brain if bypassing it would be the most viable solution and make us live to the fullest? Is that really part of the divine Plan or in our Blueprint? Dr. Daniel Amen clinical psychiatrist, cannot emphasize enough the importance of a healthy brain. Healthy brain plays the most important role for the quality of our (mental left-brain) decisions and therefore for the quality of life we want to experience. He informs us about High Performance Brains. In order to ensure high performance brain one has to achieve: Brain Excellence; Motivation; Use of Practical Neuroscience; Avoid Bad – Do Good; Resilience and Creativity and last but not least build a Brain-Smart Culture. Over the years in his clinic[17], they managed to scan over 83.000[18] brains observing the activity and blood circulation happening in these brains. The most challenging object of the research was to find a “normal brain”[19].
Since neuroplasticity was discovered, the brain is now considered as one of the most vital organ in the body enabling itself to regenerate, reversing its aging and relearning almost anything. The relearning ability of the brain at any age is its most fascinating ability. In his work, Dr. Amen highlights and promotes things to do or not to if your intention is to preserve your brain healthy and keep on making smart over 100 IQ choices. The healthy Brain habits would be: good decisions, positive peer group, protecting the brains from any injuries (even slight concussion), clean environment, physical health, healthy body weight, 8 hours sleep, new learning, great diet, wise calories spending, stress management, supplements such as multi vitamins, omega 3s, vitamin D and brain nutrients, no alcohol, no drugs.
High Self-Control equals less stress, more resilience and creativity. In order to achieve all numbered before, a person need to clear its focus and motivation – get coaching, balance blood sugar with a protein breakfast and 4 – 5 small meals a day, 8 hour sleep or more, stay out from vulnerable situations, limit number of decisions and tasks to work on since a great number of them deplete the will power and should never make decisions when tired.
Since we all have a brain, it makes sense to keep it as healthy as possible and in good working condition in order that it serves us well. Bypassing such an extraordinary and powerful organ would be like carrying a super computer with us all the time but yet, never turning it on or using it. It is therefore important to learn how to use our brain better and use the properties of neuroplasticity of the brain and learn constantly, and identify what we truly want and need, to live a high performance life.
According to Dr. Sandra Chapman[20], a smarter brain is ingenious, creative, insightful and resourceful. Our Brain is the most important asset and resource that we have and represents the power source behind all our actions. She defines five strategies for smarter brain. Brain Power of One: single-mindedly focus on one thing at the time and avoid to do two things at once and never let distractions to come in. Brain Power of Two: from the long To Do list, pick up two that are most important and that are going to make the most difference in your day and spend your brain prime time[21] doing those. Brain Power of Deep: Synthesize by taking in the information from all the sources, blend them with the rich knowledge of the brain and form an abstract and general ideas. This is the most transformative process and requires the most effort. Synthesize constantly, 20 -30 times a day. Keep your brain engaged. Brain Power of Less: Reduce the amount of information. Big data freezes our brain. Brain Power of Innovative Thinking: Inspire yourself as often as possible. The Brain is made to be stimulated and inspired. Brain Power of Healthy Habits: Eat healthy, sleep and move your feet.
What about the Heart in all of this? I will tackle the heart in another article. There is strong evidence on direct link between Consciousness and the heart.
I see an amazing opportunity for coaching: aiming to assist clients in pursue and process of fine-tuning, learning and maintaining their exceptional brain. The coaching process uses many available tools with full respect to the client’s free will. A coach motivates, supports and assists a client in making over 100 IQ smart life decisions[22] where a healthy body and brain are a prerequisite. A coach make sure client’s decisions are aligned with true (Krystic) heart desires[23] in order for a client to live their purposeful authentic life – PAL, fulfilled life and achieve their goals. A few words to explain one slogan: Healthy body, healthy mind and healthy spirit, good decisions, life in Kryst[24] in excellence.
Most things start on our own doorstep. Once we coaches walk the talk ourselves, then we start working with greater confidence. No one is alike and thus no coaching process is the same; yet I am positive we can draw here some common learnings steps to assist in coaching clients with greater excellence.
A coach must follow his client’s requests and needs and in the first place to recognize client as the expert of his own life. It is nothing new that a coach should lead clients’ attention to improve the areas of life that by discovery in a coaching process or general knowledge need to be well taken care of. This is valid even in cases when coaching engagement doesn’t include for example a lifestyle coaching and during the coaching process it turns out current lifestyle is an obstacle to achieve results from coaching engagement. This deviations from coaching agreement is wise to envisage already at the contractual period.
There are a number of tools to apply depends on a client preferences and coach’s skills at any time of a coaching process. Mindfulness is probably one of the strongest umbrella tools withholding use of meditation, contemplation, discernment, deep relaxation, gratitude journal. This tool bring the center of power back to the person where it belongs. It stops the chatter of the mind and restore a more resourceful place for the client to run a decision making process or any other activities.
Belief changing & learning tools, using NLP scripts, metaphors or subliminal messages in an altered state of mind. Smart goal setting & motivating, visualizing exercises, perceptual positions exercises, writing, toning, acting or drawing exercising, celebrating every progress, to inspire. These and more are the tools and the resources the coach can use to retrain and reframe the brains for the clients to live a purposeful authentic life – PAL.
Conclusion:
It is absolutely fascinating knowing we are operating with two completely aspects of a being, one is the consciousness that transcend the body & mind and the other one are different levels of our mind or even different minds, dependent on and entangled[25] with our biological being. With no surprise, I fully allow for the possibility even more than that exists. Beside the omnipresent Eternal Consciousness, we have two completely separate and autonomous brain hemispheres running two distinct different types of mind, disregarding the unconscious, the dreaming mind and other. To add to the complexity of who we are, there is this phenomena with the Heart Consciousness. When our decisions are fully aligned with the heart or coming from the heart, this is where we feel lightness, fulfilment, joy and aliveness. When all these levels of minds and the levels of consciousness are fully aligned, then we reach a point that we can shortly call PAL or Purposeful Authentic Life. It is in fact a point of gratification. This actually is the sweet point in our life allowing us to do things in the flow[26] with peace of mind, fully detached from the attachments to the outcome, while we simply are one with what we are doing.
Different levels of our mind thus serves more as a tool in the process of designing our decisions. Whenever we make decisions with the left side brain based mind we always look for solutions that are present in our memory, or based on learned knowledge or skills, or experience or even synthetize new ideas based on the data we have in our memory.
When the right side of the brain is engaged in the process the limitless imagination and creativity complement the left brain side cognitive process. This is where the magic starts and not yet fully develop. The creativity inspires the mind to think in new ways that are not based solely in the learned knowledge or the past experiences. This entire process is still purely “mechanical” if we can call it this way. It is a creativity process without a life context or a bigger picture, without true life purpose.
Most of the people, most of the time, base their decisions mostly with the left side of the brain. It is the way we have been taught by the school systems and to supporting that, we have developed all sorts of values, beliefs and behaviors throughout our life. This is the side responsible for cognitive logical thinking[27].
The creative right side of the brain was mostly disengaged, labeled as emotional side and let to a person to develop more as twist of fate, through hobbies or other creative processes involving limitless imagination. By using this part of our mind is where the personal authenticity emerge.
In order to achieve PAL completely, we need to have the complete picture of another important factor involved, the Heart. It appears to be, the Hart is the organ in our body widely and much better connected to the Eternal Consciousness, our life purpose and it generates the responses guiding us whether or not our decisions are driving us toward or away from our life purpose.
Being authentic and fully aligned with life purpose is probably something everyone should be aware of and intend to achieve in their life time. This is also the central aim of the coaching process. When our decisions are funded in PAL, life suddenly has a meaning, it is fulfilling, and joyful, and productive, it is when synergies and synchronicity are happening all the time and are supported with divine right actions. Being aligned, we are also easier to achieve The Flow state and thus enjoy and experience of the Gratification in our life. Choosing gratification over shortcut enjoyment should be everyone’s fundamental value.
In the developed AIDA[28] Coaching model the Coaching process is set up to constantly elicit and to support the Client’s PAL. Only when PAL is present, the client will more likely truly own their experience and more likely work for it with aliveness, joy, fulfilment and more.
