Creature Characteristics the coachee admires
Here is an interpretation of the information:
Look at answer 1 and the coachees’ creature’s admired characteristics – this is how they see themselves
Look at answer 2 – this is how others see them.
Look at answer 3 – this is how they really are
How big are the gaps among the way they see themselves, the way they are seen by others and the way they really are? Are the descriptions similar or very different? This will give coachees some idea of the accuracy of their self-awareness.
If the coachee’s answer 1 and 2 are relevant but different from the third answer, he/she seems to see himself and shows to others another person but the real him.
If the coachee’s answer 1 and 3 are relevant but different from the second answer, he/she is probably well aware of himself. However, the way he/she behaves in front of others might not show the real him/her and it leads them to misunderstand him/her.
If the coachee’s answer 2 and 3 are relevant but different from the first answer, it seems to be that he/she does not understand himself well enough while others see him/her far better.
There is also a possibility that the coachee has similar answers for all three questions. In that situation, it’s no doubt his/her self-awareness is high and he/she shows others the same thing too.
Spend some time reflecting to see how many things that lead the client to such answers and how to change them as the way he/she wishes to be. The coach can ask the coachee to share his life story. Based on it, the coach can help him explore if there is any cause of the difference in the answers. Normally, some people are so obsessed with the situation or problem that they cannot even realize the very simple solution. Sharing does not only help the coach have a better understanding of the client but it also gives the client himself a chance to reflect on his life. If there is any experience that should be discussed more deeply, it’s the coach’s job to support his client to discover the truth hidden inside. Then the coach can continue to help the client by doing something about the truth that has just been figured out to see if this can gain his awareness.
Besides “Three favorite creatures” Exercise, there are some other ways that can be applied in the coaching sessions:
B2.2. Gaining Self-Belief
As young people now can approach many kinds of information including both good and bad ones and they are in their adolescence, their self-belief is quite unstable. Most of the time, it is because they are not fully aware of their powers and they also have to receive so many comments from others which sometimes are negative. Therefore, to support coaches to find their self-belief, there are two methods that can be applied in the following order:
a. “Strengthsfinder”
Knowing strengths and focusing on them help young people gain their pride and feelings of being powerful. Once they know where they are good at, they do not have to worry if they can do this or that, or if they can start this area or that field. Things get easier when they put their mind into developing what they naturally have talents for.
