Disempowering beliefs were ingrained into us from a very young age and they were repeated so often that we do not consciously think about them anymore, they are unconscious. Beliefs like these are the root of self-sabotage and we don’t even know we are doing it. It may be helpful to think of beliefs as a computer virus. You don’t know you have one until things start going wrong. When you finally realize that you have a virus, you need to find the source, clear it out and then add new protection software to stop any more viruses from infecting your computer. So it is with beliefs, once you find the belief that is causing the problem, you will need to clear it and replace it an empowering one that will serve you better.
The beliefs you hold dictate your reality. So much of what you see, hear, feel or say is a direct result of the beliefs you hold. Your health, your life success, your relationships and your children all reflect what you believe to be true. In fact, everything you experience reflects the beliefs you hold about life.
This author as well as all the great motivational writers share their ideas openly and honestly with us. They give us opportunities to explore new ideas and possibilities that we may not have been exposed to before. In reading their works we gain new knowledge and get to take away new ideas to use in our own personal growth. As a coach we can take these new ideas and apply them to our coaching sessions making us better coaches.
Your body, your health, your finances, your relationships are all a mirror reflection of what you believe. So take a look at your life and where you are struggling. These will be the areas that you have limiting beliefs that do not serve you and they are NOT true.
Until a belief is recognized, as just that – a belief – it will ultimately create our destiny. If we are to have a more fulfilling life, we need to work at changing these beliefs so we can move towards a TRUTH that will lead us to create a live on purpose.
This is an inspirational poem by Daniel Rechnitzer, I trust the profoundness of its wisdom will touch you in a similar profound way as it touched my hearth!
Beliefs, Not Me! I am not my beliefs, they are not me.
Beliefs create my reality, but don’t set me free.
Beliefs are not real, they are imagined,
A version of the truth I once imagined.
Create a new reality, one that works,
A new experience of life, one that doesn’t hurt!
Change your beliefs and you’ll be glad,
That in truth not one of us is bad. 4
I am inviting you to accept the possibility that maybe, just maybe what you hold as a truth is not the truth after all. And similar to a computer virus you might just find that all you have to do is run a program that will replace disempowering beliefs with more self-fulfilling ones. The reprograming of old beliefs with new ones works like the protection software stopping those old beliefs from infecting you ever again.
