THE METHOD:
This reflection will be done in three main parts:
THE CHECK-IN
Nowadays it is quite normal to feel that people expect much more from us than probably we can give. And this is true in our personal and work life!
We have become familiar with the idea of doing more, faster and with fewer resources.
The times in which we are living are unique and have no comparison with any other moment in history. Today, with the digital revolution, we have almost unlimited chances to do almost everything. Technology has offered a tremendous power just by clicking a simple bottom. We can access nearly everything and everybody in any place, just in a few seconds, from the comfort of our homes. This was a real revolution!
Shouldn’t it be more than enough to generate extraordinary people and lives?
Here is where today’s paradox arises – the massive amount of resources versus the lack of ability to make choices.
In the modern knowledge age, we have endless choices, more complex decisions and sometimes the addition of complex tools.
We face the dilemma that arrives as the consequence of today’s paradox – between these boundless choices, we don’t know what to do first, why, when and how. And this is true in our personal and work life.
We have turned out to be addicts of the 24/7 connected paradigm and developed the habit of multitasking. The ability of paying attention to one thing at the time is a thing of the past. At the end of the day, the result is unsurprisingly the lack of productivity, energy and meaning.
We are more unfocused than ever before with the number of tools, devices, stimuli, and tasks.
The natural consequence of all this has built a mindset, where we are living and working with much more stress, anxiety, negative moods, anger, burnout, exhaustion and even depression.
Are we aware of it? Is this acceptable? At what expenses and until when? Is this the way to be productive, healthy and happy?
THE CHOICE:
Despite the situation described above, is there only bad news? Where is the “light at the end of the tunnel”? Do we have any alternatives? What are they? How do we choose? How do we cope with all the things we need to get done, with the sense of urgency we feel, in our modern lives? Can we still have a productive, healthy and meaningful life?
What is the “right” mindset to live and work with peace of mind, energy and fulfillment?
If we can’t ignore or even deny the facts, we can certainly CHOOSE what to do. We have a fabulous opportunity to create new perspectives/changes that can serve us best. Isn’t the use of our intelligence and liberty what it’s all about?
How can we make better choices to live fully? How can we take advantage of the time in which we are living? How might knowledge and technology serve our best intention to have a better personal and work life?
What kind of personal and work life do we want to craft? What is our vision, values, beliefs, strengths and weakness, when it comes to creating the future? What are we willing to do?
THE CHANGE
The way we are living and working requires a dramatic paradigm shift – from more, bigger and faster to less, authentic and meaningful.
However, in the meanwhile, there are a couple of simple things, yet powerful, we can easily do in order to reduce the stress and attain superior well-being, meaning and happiness, in our personal and work lives, like:
Above and beyond the tips mentioned, there are THREE KEY SECRETS to reduce the levels of stress that are preventing us from living a full life:
