Carmen Phillipe-Welton, MED RN:
Ujjayi breathing at the start of a coaching session fashioned a distinct space for me to engage with my coach. By being present with my whole being in this way, and not merely my intellect, my coach shaped a unique invitation for me to see the gift in what I perceived to be difficult family and health dynamics. I felt more relaxed yet alert and hopeful. This active breathing enriches the coaching process and outcomes. The overall effect was one of empowerment. The breathing establishes an energetic calmness in my whole body and psyche that makes it possible for me to carry out my life fully and feel less stressed. Ujjayi breathing practice generated a life-enhancing sense of vitality and deeper inner peace. I’ll continue with it for the rest of my life.
Conclusion
The case rests on the premise that breath work is a deceptively simple yet powerful tool that complements the coaching process by anchoring the mind of both coach and client in the present moment, opening the way to increased self-awareness and the clearer thinking necessary for clients to clarify their goals and develop actions.
When the mind is at peace, everything else flows.
