Conclusion
The title of this paper proposes that coaching be adopted as the primary approach for leadership development with Native American people. Not only is the coach approach a good fit for Native American people psychologically and culturally, it goes hand in hand with leadership development. Though it is relatively new in popular practice and as an industry, coaching has roots that go back to Socrates. (Brock, 2008, p.59)
Throughout history, when humankind has made discoveries that have had lasting benefits such as the wheel, glass or written language they have embraced and used them to their fullest potential. Unfortunately, some beneficial discoveries have not used fully, though their benefit cannot be denied, such as the benefit of the human touch, the value of friendship or listening over speaking. If coaching is embraced by Native American communities it will not only join the ranks of essential tools in leadership development, but could very well serve as the capstone critical to complete the task.
