When the client is faced with such challenging and rather personal questions, be prepared for some resistance but most importantly remember to create a safe and comfortable space for the client. And remember to allow the client more time to dwell in this self-exploration.
Once the client has opened up fully about all the negative views about their incomplete self, the coach will then move on to change the focus of the client to explore the positive side and identify the special qualities and strengths that they possess.
Possible questions are:
From doing this, you will then most likely be able to sense an increase in the energy and confidence level of the client. With this temporary increase of positive energy in the client, the coach shall then guide the client to confront and accept their weaknesses as part of who they are. And then move on quickly to keep the focus on their positive views of their uniqueness by asking them to explore what they can possibly achieve with their strengths and talents. This is another part of exploration that would require a good amount of time for the client to generate clarity and depth about their true potential.
Once the options of potential goals are generated and listed out, the client should then be asked about their values and how well aligned are their values with the different potential goals available. This is where the client will find a clearer picture of which path would be more suitable by aligning it with their core values.
And from here onwards would be the exciting journey of taking actions with commitment and accountability on the part of the client with the loving support and acknowledgements from the coach.
