- Play the “guessing game”. Everyday for a week, play the “guessing game” whenever you have a choice to make, the more simple the choice the better. Which road to take to work, what colour to wear today, who is that calling me on my phone (before you look). You will start to notice how often you are infact right. Then you will also start to learn what it feels like to receive an intuition. It’s a fun game and helps to build up self-trust. Once you know how to use your intuition on the smaller problems you will then be able to start using it on the bigger ones.
- When you have a decision to make direct the question first to your head and note the answer. Then re-direct the question to your heart and note the answer. Then look at the answers alongside each other and see if you can make a decision based on both answers.
- Live a balanced and healthy life. When you are healthy and un-stressed, intuitive readings are much clearer and easier to access. So take care of yourself!
- Meditate, even if only for 5 minutes a day. It will help you to create calm and peace within and help you to connect with your higher self, the source of most intuitions.
- Reconnecting with yourself and all that you love. Doing a stock take of what brings you energy and what makes you really, really happy. Write it all down and enjoy knowing yourself and what you love. This connection with your true self will help you to get clearer readings.
- Get grounded. This means literally connecting your awareness to the ground. Running, jumping, exercising, touching the dirt, hugging trees, going for a walk in nature, smelling flowers – all these activities will ground the energy in the body and pull out unwanted negativity, helping you to get clearer intuitive readings.
- Play! One of the best ways to connect to your intuition is through creative play. So just lighten up and enjoy playing some games, bring some travel and adventure into your life, make believe, encourage bright ideas, indulge in your interests, laugh, sing, tell jokes, do new things, make mistakes without censoring, be very curious, act silly and play the fool.
Most of all relax and have fun with your intuition and see where it takes you!
Using Intuition in Coaching
Obviously the best decisions are in-line with your values and take into consideration all the information available to you – external and internal. So learning to strike a balance between reason and intuition is the best guidance to offer a coachee.
So next time a client is having trouble finding a solution to a problem or making a decision, don’t forget to ask them,
What does your intuition tell you?
If they are new to using intuition you can introduce the concepts and techniques above to them. Let them choose the techniques that speak to them. You could also suggest that they monitor their decision making over a period of two weeks or one month, as they start using some of the techniques suggested. This way they can see the results for themselves. This is especially important for left-brain types who need lots of evidence and factual information to evaluate the effectiveness of the techniques.
Some questions you can ask to help clients examine their relationship with intuition include:
- What is intuition and where does it come from?
- Tell me about a time you have used your intuition and what happened?
- Where is your intuition located?
(If you have not thought about this before, close your eyes, take 3 calming breaths, then address a question to your intuition. Note where the answer is coming from. Locating your intuition can help you to direct questions to it more directly.)
- Do you trust your intuition? Why or why not?
- Are there any benefits to using intuition? Why or why not?
- Are there any dangers to using intuition? Why or why not?
- What would you like to achieve by developing your intuition?
You can prepare by using these questions for your own reflection as well.
