Commitment is the difference between involvement and accountability. It is taking responsibility before the fact rather than after the fact. Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you are going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you Michael Eisbrener
It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable. Moliere, French play writer
Background:
I started my coaching model with an AND perspective and not a VERSUS perspective, believing that we can still shift a perspective with two complementary attributes. Without commitment, accountability is not achieved. Therefore, one is necessary for the other to happen. They are entwined and correlated to success.
Commitment:
The word web defines the word “commitment” as “ the act of binding yourself (intellectually or emotionally) to a course of action”. In other words it means: obligation, duty, vow, pledge, binder, guarantee.
As for my understanding, commitment implies many facets:
Commitment without action is not really commitment. It might be trying or experimenting.
Commitment + action = success.
Commitment will move you forward .If you commit to know more about yourself and find what is brilliant in you. You will discover what is special and unique about you. This commitment will reinforce your self-esteem, self-respect, self-worthiness and self-love.
Everyone experiences doubt. Everyone is afraid of failure. If you let this feeling overwhelm you, you will start to feel negative about yourself. You will feel weak and you will give up on your commitment. At this point you will convince yourself that it was wrong and hard to do so. Furthermore, it will result in giving up on yourself and reinforce that believe that does not support you.
These two diagrams show the flow of your commitment and accountability. It depends on the way of thinking. As some people think strategically so they start seeing the big picture and then break it down into more tactical way. Ex: I want to become a coach is the vision (strategic level), I will do my research, I will chose the academy, I will set a time frame to finish my certificate, I will schedule my classes, I will attend my classes, etc.
Others start by the mile stoning what they want to do then seeing the bigger picture, etc.
First you start by your general plan where you incorporate your milestones where Milestones mark important or major steps or achievement in your journey. Then you put your action steps; ‘What are the steps required for this particular action?’. Your goal will pour into your value where the particular value will start shed light on your purpose.
Accountability is the main drive to move you through actions, to help you stay on track while managing your progress.
Accountability:
The Webster dictionary defines the word “accountable” as being “subject to giving an account: answerable, capable of being accounted, held responsible.
In other words, it is about doing what you say and saying what you mean. As for me, people who are accountable, a higher level of responsibility:
I also find that there is a strong connection between accountability and trust as:
