Freedom or having the discretion to choose has its place in our lives, but without order, desired outcomes cannot be successfully anticipated. So how will discretion affect our ability to meet desired goals? What positive role does discretion or freedom play in our efforts to achieve our goals? Does discretion or freedom to choose support us in reaching our desired goals?
Orchestration that creates planning and structure is vital if we are to move forward towards what we desire. Worthwhile ideas and proclamations like “you need more will power, you need to believe in yourself, you need to eat better and get exercise” are all important to put us in a frame of mind and in a healthy place for achievement . But without orchestration- we tend to get stuck or at the very least oscillate back and forth and rarely move forward effectively. Very nice people with good values, lofty goals and are hard working and industrious will very often find that their efforts do not result in the outcome they hoped for. Reaching goals must be accompanied by the orchestration of the activities required to reach those goals, it is in everything that moves forward. You will find orchestration in everything that is productive and moves in a desired direction. You will find it in engines, how a good teacher teaches, how a company operates their factory, how a football team runs a passing play. A life that has goals must have orchestration to move forward and achieve that outcome.
Coaching Application
The coaching client will find that living their life according to their discretion might be at times restful, relaxing and without pressure. However, it is likely the client has engaged a coach because they seek change. And change often requires action with goals in mind. For the goals to be achieved, with the least amount of resistance, orchestrating the process would go a long way to achieving those goals.
In addition, the importance of orchestration to achieve is compounded when you have a family, and other responsibilities requiring your time, thoughts and energy. For the client to reach their goals it will be important for the coach to create an awareness of the benefits of orchestration.
