Most people are affected by things that happen or by the actions of other people. They might feel happy because something good happened. Or, they might be upset because someone said, or did, something negative to them.
A person’s state of being
the way they are inside – is often shifting.
External factors
things outside of us like people or situations – lose their power over us when we realize we can consciously shift how we want to be on the inside. We can shift our state of being.
When we become aware of this, it becomes very empowering. Rather than possibly suffering about something, we can take steps to move to a place of inner peace.
State of Being: What is it?
We each have a state of being – our inner realm, condition or energetic state. A person’s state of being is usually a reflection of their feelings, but it can also be determined by conscious choice.
Positive feelings, such as happiness, love or pride, tend to make a person feel good. Most people like to feel good.
Negative feelings, such as sadness, fear or disappointment, tend to make a person feel upset and often lead to suffering. Most people don’t like to suffer.
Suffering
When a person is upset, this means their peace is disturbed. Rather than being in a neutral state of inner peace, they are likely suffering inside. This is not a pleasant experience. Suffering is usually associated with pain.
When someone is in a state of suffering, that usually means there are judgments present, as well as negative emotions. Some examples of negative emotions, which can result in suffering, are: anger, despair, grief, shame, guilt, resentment, regret, fear, apathy and hostility.
Peace
When someone is at peace, they are in a neutral state of being. They may experience neutral feelings, such as serenity, calmness, harmony or tranquility. They tend to be feeling fine, not beholden to positive or negative pulls. Peace is sometimes referred to as peace of mind or inner peace.
