Coaching Application
Shifting from Me to We, is part of what coaching is about. Coaching is a beautiful process where two (or sometimes more) people come together with the intention of achieving a goal and getting the support needed to make it happen. There is a passage in the bible that states
For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.
New International Version (©1984)
Loosely translated this means that when two or more people come together with clean and pure intention miracles happen. In coaching clients learn that part of achieving any goal is to get support. Best selling author and life coach Cheryl Richardson often outlines 6 steps to achieving any goal on her hay house radio show (www.hayhouseradio.com). They are as follows.
6 Steps to Achieving any Goal.
- Claim you goal.
- Put it in writing
- Create an affirmation
- Get support
- Create a vision map
- Take 5 steps to make your goal a reality ensuring the steps a re doable, bite sized and manageable.
As you can see from this amazing 6-step process that putting some support in place is essential to achieving any goal. It is reassuring to know we don’t have to do it alone.
Using the Me to We Power Tool in Coaching.

After asking him powerful questions client A decides to attend a SLAA 12 step meetings, return for therapy and continue coaching and make sobriety his number one goal. When you ask her what support she needs to put in place to get her book published, she tells you she needs to meet with a graphic artist, hire a financial advisor, and join a mastermind group of people who have published books. Miracles begin to happen that lead her to the exact people she needs for her to realize her dream.
Client C
Client C Is feeling lost and a through the coaching process he realizes that one way he wants to make a contribution to the world is through acting and stand-up comedy but he has been too scared to make it happen. With the help of his coach he joins an acting class and a stand-up comedy improvisation group. This give him so much energy and happiness he finds himself doing an even better job at this current position working for an airline.
Reflection
What support do you need regarding your own coaching practice?
How can you support your client to get the support they need to achieve their goal?
How could you help your clients see their gifts and talents that could be used for a greater purpose?
