From this perspective we may begin to see that our life does not operate in a vacuum, that there are innumerable factors present all coming together that make up the constellation of our lives. To take the point of view of allowing life to have it’s way through us means that we are but a cooperative component as opposed to an independent self contained machine. To embrace this possibility fully results in a sense of trust and relaxed engagement in whatever we are doing as opposed to an urgent, stress filled endeavor that feels like if we don’t do it right or by a certain time our very survival depends on it.
From the place of allowing we release ourselves from the pressures of being the doer, the one sole force that makes our life happen and we open to a larger life. In this we are no longer ‘doing’ our life but rather participating in it, experiencing it, exploring it. There is a much greater capacity for wonder, for excitement, and most of all for non resistance in this. This opens us to an experience of flowing versus feeling like we have to push life along to make it all work out. It avoids over efforting and the accompanying burnt out, stress, and disease that eventually result from this. It also prevents an over occupation with what the future will bring and how we are going to deal with that. Not to say that we can’t look at the future vision and plan our goals, but we do so without being as attached to needing a certain result for us to be ok.
Being in a place of allowing or flow means that as we meet the things we must do daily we are following what our life presents rather than following the constructed patterns of our minds idea that we are in charge. When we find this authentic response life becomes a dance worthy of dancing itself, regardless of the outcome. Even if we never get any closer to getting all of the 10,000 things done that present in life, if we are a partner with life rather than thinking we are in charge of it, at least we will be enjoying the ride.
