A Coaching Power Tool Created by Amjad Ali

“Thousand desires such that at every desire occurs another death” is an Indian song and truly relates to my power tool. 24 hours is the time which we all have to utilize to fulfill the wishes and we have hundred of wishes which we want to achieve such as to have secure financial life, a big house, new brand of car, good career, happy life so on and so forth. We all live in the world which is moving so fast and mankind struggles to achieve everything that he sees around him in a shortest time and then switch from one wish to another and finally arrives at nothing. This is not the case with highly successful people, who move themselves from “wish” mode to “Will” mode. There are many things which we want to do in life. This is called a WISH, everyone wants everything. We wish a lot of things in life. How our wishes come true is the matter of fact. Wish is similar to dream or desire, our dreams come true when we work hard to achieve those dreams of life and that hard work only comes if we have a WILL to do. We have hundreds of wishes to achieve, how much hard work we do to achieve those wishes is important to know. There is a small shift from wish to will to do but a leap step.
Definition:
Wish: Wish is a hope or desire for something. The Merriam-Webster dictionary meaning of wish is Want, desire or long for.
Will: According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, WILL is used to express choice, willingness and consent. I have used WILL in this power tool in the context of willingness to do something.
Self Application:
Whenever I start a new thing to do, my mind gives so many thoughts and shows me so many opportunities to attain, which actually diverts me from my original goal. As human being all opportunities fascinate me and I try to fulfill all my wishes and either I get nothing or yet I achieve a little. Then I move from one wish to another and get so much frustration looking at end results which are nothing or less than the desired. At this point of time I realize that what was missing? Why I’m not happy with the result? What went wrong and I could not make my wishes true? I get the only one answer, “you had all the excuses but the WILL to do actions to achieve your wishes.
When I have a WILL to do anything, I do everything whatever it takes me to do. It gives me so much energy, happiness, confidence and so much positivity that I achieved my desired results/goal. I have actually completed the task/ goal that lead to have a sense of fulfillment.
Sometimes we wish to do/ have something because others do or have and we like it, no matter we want that willingly or not. This means there is some external force which is making us to feel or do/act in certain way but that force is not coming from within us.
Power Tool:
I would like to share my personal example which will explain WISH vs WILL. I have a passion about having parrots as pets. I spend hours with my pets, doing the cleaning, buying them new toys/ nests, feed, etc this all I do and don’t get tired. On the other hand when I was thinking to write this power tool it took me weeks to actually sit and write. I changed my deadlines week after week and was not getting internal WILL to finish this. WILL gives so much freedom to truly see the shining colors of the life; it gives freedom from failure, freedom from sorrow feelings, freedom from self talk and gives you mindfulness.
Coaching Application:
People look for coaching when they need clarity on their goals and a support to keep them on a track of a change. The challenge client face is in moving forward, a coach first need to understand, is it client’s goal or someone else’s goal and client is just wishing to have it. Does a client have a WILL to achieve that goal? As a coach we have to provide trusting space to client to share his behavior to towards achieving his goal.
Coach sometimes also work as an accountability partner, he needs to shift the perspective of client to have him WILL, Will to take actions. Coach can ask how this WILL gives him energy, empowerment and confidence.
When you go to take even small steps to achieving your goal, how do you feel like? How would you rate your energy level to achieve the goal, as high or low or something? What stops you to take action for accomplishing your goal? What impact would it have on your life, if you don’t achieve your goal? When he is most productive how is he feeling? How can you use your strengths in this situation to keep the WILL going? In a coaching session, if a client finds a difference between WISH and WILL, it would help him to shift the perspective to create action.
Reflection:
- Can you list down the feelings you would have when you have a WILL to achieve your goal?
- How do you make time for yourself and nurture you? What motivates you?
- How this power tool would help your to client to make a shift from dis-empowering to empowering change?
- When do you enjoy your life, when you wish something or achieve something? What would you do to be in achieving something state?
