Coach’s tip:
Use exercises that are appropriate to your client’s learning style, such as
Tree trunk – Establishing values
Through and from the flow of conversation, the client begins to profess their own values & beliefs i.e. the foundations upon which the client wants to build their thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
The coach will reflect back the values being proclaimed by the client.
With the client’s permission, and through powerful questions, the coach will empower the client to contrast their thoughts, feelings and behaviors against the values they have professed. Our aim is to help the client discover whether their thoughts/ feelings/behaviors are embedded in or supported by their values. In other words, if the client is an apple tree, is the client producing apples?
Coach’s tip:
Practice being fully present by actively listening. Affirm the client’s discoveries. Remind the client that there is no judgement and no “right or wrong” in this space so that the client feels encouraged to share their truest feelings. Offer the client freedom to ‘go where they want to go’;
Challenge the client to look deeper within himself/herself by mirroring back and clarifying what you hear them saying.

Coach’s tip:
Trust the coaching process and trust that the client is the expert! Remain fully present with the client by engaging power listening; asking questions from a place of curiosity; nurturing the trusting space and suspending judgement. Trust that the client will eventually be able to identify the limiting beliefs that are producing the behaviors they wish to change. Upon discovery of the limiting beliefs, help the client to reframe and re-commit to the conscious choices they have previously made.
