Self application:
Take the time to go through your schedule for the last week, these are the things you said they were your priority, which ones you didn’t achieve and what prevented you from getting them done? Now ask yourself what would have happened if I didn’t do at that time what looked like urgent?! What are the questions you need to ask yourself to check whether to do something that is not in your schedule and might affect it or not?!
Coaching application:
One of the main reasons, people come to coaching is the feeling of being overwhelmed , we human being tend to underestimate how much time do we need to get certain things done, and overestimate how much future time is available, we usually call it “someday”.
A skilled coach holds his client accountable; he also helps him staying focused and aware of the important things in his life.
Julia decided to go through a career transition, and asked for a coach’s services to support her in her journey, she planned to move back to her hometown and settle down, this will give her some security while starting her own business; Julia had to attend an annual meeting in another city, so she took the time to visit and explore the city, when she met with her coach, she announced that there is some changes, she wants to move to that city, find a job and from there start her business, “nothing is going change actually, I just need to delay the deadline of my goal a little bit, as I won’t have the financial security I’d had in my hometown, her coach felt the excitement in the tone of her voice, asked her to take the time to check the job offers, and imagine what might happen if she takes this decision, he also asked her to not answer right away, and wait until the next session, Julia thought that over and came the next session with a determination in her voice, “nothing will distract me from my goal, once I start my business I can think about moving to this city.” The excitement went away, that quick decision wasn’t based in her values, and didn’t support the important goals, thus when the excitement went away, the decision weren’t there neither.
