PURPOSE, PRESENCE AND POWER
Purpose:
I’m not talking about a job, the daily responsibilities. I mean the real reason why you’re on this earth. The reason you exist.
If you want to discover your true purpose in life and to come to your deepest level of what you want in life, you have to be aware of your whole beliefsystem.
This can be hard because you are sometimes not even aware that you have these (underlying) beliefs. We form our beliefs from a very early stage; what we are told, what we heard, what we experienced.
What we think, we will become, Buddha.
Another part of peeling the onion is to find out your passion. Which things make you laugh, what kind of things give you energy?
To come closer to yourself it is also evident to know your values. What is important to you? It is about becoming more aware of yourself, your inner working of your being, your limitations, your blockades, recognizing your patterns, what is driving you and so on. Self-awareness will create a slight shift in perception The automatic part op life will decrease. When you awaken, you start becoming more present. You recognize your being. I call it “your Presence”.
Last but not least: What are your strenghts? All too often we don’t fully use our talents. Sometimes because we are lead by the expectations that other people have of us, sometimes because we are just not aware of our talents. The key to “success” is clearly identifying your strengths and weaknesses and deciding to develop your strengths rather than getting frustrated and wasting energy trying to improve only your weaknesses.
Success is mostly given to those who have clearly identified and demonstrated their strengths, who have identified their passion and know who they are and what they are good at and what not.
Marcus Buckingham is considered to be the pioneer of ‘the strengths’ revolution’. He extensively studied the world’s most successful individuals and organizations to understand what drives their performance. He concluded that these people and organizations focus on what they are good at and continue to get better at this. Buckingham is also saying that employees, who get to do what they are best at, are more engaged, fulfilled and successful. In this model we call this Your Power.
THE PROCESS
How to find my purpose, my presence and my power?
Why would you opt for coaching? You identify a dilemma, a problem to be solved or a feeling that you want to change something or just an uncomfortable feeling where you want to get rid of (your gut feeling tells you something must change!). Probably you haven’t yet thought hard enough about the problem, but you definitely know there is an issue to resolve here. Here you will have the Issue.
But what do we know about the issue?
These are all exploring questions to determine the real issue and to understand the context of the issue.
In my opinion the reflective part is the most exciting one. It is time to try to put the issue in perspective. What is the emotional reaction to this situation? What is this saying to you, what is going on here, how is this serving you? It is time for interpretation.
Your conclusions will be the insight. You understand what the issue is, you will see what is happening here and you have a choice to decide what to do about it. But first there is acceptance; acceptance about who you are. Free yourself of expectations and judgements. Here you can find your innerpeace!
From here the “doing”-phase will start. You will need will power, commitment to make a choice how to proceed, how to change your behavior. It is time to make a decision and go for it! If you can convince yourself, if you feel the drive to “change” yourself then you have enough will power to realise your dreams. You are going to act, to do. You will experience the results, the energy, the excitement even if you make a mistake once in a while. With your different perspective, your will power and the new insights you have gained you will experience the Transformation!
But just realise once in a while that the journey is just as important as achieving your goal.
