A Coaching Model By Ufuk Mahmutyazicioglu, Life Coach, SWITZERLAND
Four Stages of the Spiral of Intent
This worksheet reflects my coaching model based on the transformation process that I am passing through since I study Coaching. When I look at my process from the outside I realize that the transformation can be represented by a spiral movement that starts at the center with love and trust and expands around it. The intention itself gives the power to the movement of transformation. That’s why I named my model The Spiral of Intent. This model includes 4 phases (discover, identify, create and apply) of the spiral which grows with the force of intent.
The Spiral of Intent 4 Phases (Discover, Identify, Create and Apply)
Think of a concept of Self/I represented by a spiral that has got trust and love at its center ( at the birthplace) and whose movement/transformation is accelerated by intention, imagination, and connection (relationship of harmony between inside and outside). The concept of Self/I is in a continuous expansion.
In my forties, I had an existential crisis with a deep feeling of dissatisfaction, regret, and disappointment. I had lost the connection with myself. My intention with this model is to serve my clients who as I had, have difficulties connecting with their emotions with an existential questioning of where he/she is in life, with a sense of non-accomplishment. They probably feel stuck. They probably feel they need to discover what is not functioning in and out of themselves.
The model aims to help people to gain and regain self-esteem, self-compassion, and self-respect self-love.
It is not important how they arrived at that point but it is important to find what they are attached to here and now and what they need to discover to go further.
From my point of view, this model includes both the coaching process and the session(ICF competencies are used in a relationship with the client).
Coaching relationships like a time machine have the power to create new dimensions of space, a parallel universe where the client can observe themselves from different angles… At the end of the coaching process, I imagine my clients to internalize the process and continue to grow independently. They will be closer to their authentic selves.
I aim to help them have major confidence, awareness, satisfaction, and happiness in their lives. Most probably the process will modify their mindsets towards a growth mindset which also will help them make use of and live their emotions in a better way …
Let’s look at the phrases:
Discover / D
What are the objects of this phase?
By using coaching techniques discover anything that could be detected in the client like emotions, thoughts, needs, values, limiting beliefs, behaviors, reactions, or patterns or the facts, resources, risks, and obstacles which are surrounding him/her…Very important to create the time machine to observe the relationship between the objects showing up. Discovering relationships between the elements will help you to identify the actual perspective.
Identify / I
When you give a name to the things that you are discovering you put a space between them and you. In this way, it is easier to look at their emotion of them and feel compassion for and acceptance.
This phase is a deep-diving. Identify the social and individual needs behind, desires, emotions, values, beliefs, and what and how to keep, relocate, leave or recreate…
Create/ C
Now you are ready to go further, the interior transformation already started. This phase is to imagine the new self with the elements you identified in past steps. Imagine which elements are replacing with which others… By visualizing how you desire to Show up, you are closer to your new self. It will help you to apply what you have learned now, to real life.
Apply/ A
This is the phase where you experience what you have learned and what has emerged in the creation process. You are in the moment from one cycle to another or from one session to another… This phase prepares you to re-discover and transform what you have collected into action to continue to grow…
The spiral of motion in which the process never repeats itself and difficultly ends.
