It can take the form of the goal and objectives of your coaching journey or of the vision of your life or both. Defining and clarifying what you want for yourself and your life or what you want to achieve with the coaching is really important. Setting SMART goals can help to set your vision in a powerful and organised way.
Like the sun for the trees, your vision and goals will give yourself a lots of energy and will guide you as you grow. This step is about taking the time to visualise your vision so it is clear and attractive for you.
At this stage, the coach can help you define and clarify your vision and set SMART goals for yourself.
The Trunk: Taking action and having structure
This step is about taking action towards your goals and creating structure to support you. The action is really important, this is what is going to bring you to where you want to be. Without action, nothing is happening. You can also look at what structure could be put in place to support you in taking action. For example, putting in place an action plan can be really helpful at this stage to clearly see the step you need to take toward your vision.
If you look at the tree, the trunk is what is connecting the roots with the branches. In coaching the action will connect your resources to your vision and make them interact together as you move forward and grow.
The coach can help you identify the steps you need to take and support you to pass to action and overcome the blockages that could be there.
The fruits: Sharing and acknowledging success and vision
This step is about seeing and acknowledging the progress along the road. It’s about celebrating and honouring our victory and wins and sharing it with others. Doing that brings a lot of positive energy to one’s journey and can inspire others to take action in their life. It can also help to keep the motivation in place.
The fruits of the tree are sweet and good and they contains other seeds. Each time someone is sharing his wins, success and vision he make it possible for others to do it for themselves. It is also a way to keep your goals and objectives even more alive and present in yourself.
At this stage, the coach will help you identify and celebrate your wins, success and progress.
The Tree
It is important to see the unity and the interrelation of each step in this model. The balance and fluidity will keep it alive and working well.
For example, someone could have a huge vision without knowing and using his inner and outer resources. Like a tree with to many branches and poor roots, this person may fall when the wind of change will blow.
In the other side, a person could be confident and aware of all her resources but without having vision or goals. This person might lose her motivation and meaning to her life. The roots of a tree without branches, will slowly decompose…
I hope this model will inspire you and guide you in your life and coaching journey.
