The SHINE model is a model of empowerment, inspiring and supporting people to experience all aspects of their life with:

Life is a journey. It is one to live well. It is one to be embraced. It is one to be at your best and to shine. The SHINE coaching model is about inspiring you to look and move forward towards light, joy and fulfilment. It recognises that in learning and progress there are challenges that also need to be overcome. It incorporates learning and behavioural theories to support you along the journey.
The SHINE model is designed to empower you to dream big, believe and take action to maximise everything from your career to your everyday life. It encourages you to explore that which brings you joy, to shine and be the best person you can be. It focuses on the individual and supporting you to discover and utilise your core values, strengths and innate talents, to be empowered to live a rich life with zest, energy and flow.

The journey to self-actualisation is never linear. There are many hurdles and obstacles in our modern-day lives and it is very easy to get stuck and lose our way. Sometimes we
find ourselves feeling like we don’t know who we are, we don’t have the resources or time to discover, and we don’t know where to start. It can be frightening, and often we lack the belief, strategies or courage, to be honest, develop a vision, or make a change.
SHINE is a vehicle to improve motivation and decrease the stress involved in the growth process. It is designed to help you along the journey, to help you understand yourself to move from those moments of unhappiness, insecurity, uncertainty or of being afraid, to a position of self-confidence and surety about who you want to be. It focuses on authenticity with true self – a position where we stand up straighter and feel ourselves shining, where we are energised, empowered and strong.
SHINE can support you in identifying that which gives you energy and what is positively contributing to your life path. A coach’s role in the SHINE model is to help you see where you want to go and to support you in gaining a more accurate understanding of your values, beliefs, strengths and personality to help you take effective action in life. The aim is, that with this support, your struggle is reduced and you are more likely to reach your goals and live an authentic life.
With awareness, comes the power to make positive change. As a SHINE coach, I will help you move forward.

The Acronym SHINE Model Meaning
SHINE is a model that honours the role of vision, acknowledges the truth and embraces honesty. The acronym SHINE reflects the sequence or progression I work through with clients wanting greater depth, richness and meaning from their life.
SITUATION OF SELF
Beginning with breath and acknowledgement of feelings, emotions and physical being, we explore and acknowledge where you are right now in your life – What is your current challenge?
HONESTY
With honesty, and without judgement, establish your intent and vision for yourself in your life right now. Where would you like to be? What does it look like and what does it feel like? Breath into it, visualise and dream.
INVESTIGATE & IDENTIFY
Investigate and identify the driver behind your motivations – meaning, values, beliefs, mental models, strengths and systems that are impacting your vision – positive or negative. Explore meaning to a deeper level. How are your current motivations serving you? How could life be different? What has been holding you back?
NARROW Down Specifics & NURTURE
Establish where there is both connection and disconnect between your current state and the state you wish to be in. Identify what you could do to nurture your vision. Narrow down the changes that need to occur in your life to more closely align your thoughts, words and actions with your vision. Be inspired to confidently make decisions and overcome limitations that come from within because you have a clear vision.
EVALUATION & CELEBRATION
Evaluation and celebration of how far you have come, using your learning to build your knowledge and understanding of self to continue the cycle of growth.
Influences on the SHINE Model
The SHINE model reflects a unique blend of my own beliefs about learning and growth and is influenced by works of theorists, psychologists and leaders of educational and personal change: Abraham Maslow (Hierarchy of Needs), Peter Senge (Disciplines of Learning organisations), Noel Burge (The Consciousness Competency Matrix), Lev Vygotsky (Zone of Proximal Development) and James Nottingham (The Learning Pit).
The SHINE model acknowledges stages of learning and looks holistically at the path to happiness and fulfilment. It recognised that people are competent and capable individuals who are better able to learn and grow more readily and effortlessly when they are provided with the right type of support. This is the value of a coach.
It honours one’s aspiration to evolve, the stages of competency, the ‘Learning Pit’ that often exists and must be worked through to move from where we find ourselves and where we wish to be and a coaches role in acting as a bridge to facilitating learning, motivate and empower, as well as ease the discomfort that can sometimes be associated with growth.
