A Coaching Model Created by Sandeep Singh Arora
(Executive Coach, INDIA)
My coaching model is based on my belief of creating balance and harmony in life. The pace and pressures of life can create imbalances in the form of emotional block and doubts. Chakra means wheel in Sanskrit and therefore stands for the balance we should achieve in life. The model has been inspired by my interest in the CHAKRAS, which in ancient Hindu scriptures is the study of energy centres in the body. The model is also based on my experience and insights of working with executive clients.
The CHAKRA coaching model has the following flow:
Centering
- Are we completely present?
- What is our intention for this session?
Most executives that arrive for coaching sessions are still present in their meetings. Their mind is racing and searching for solutions to all the business issues. CENTERING is about taking a few minutes to bring some focus and get the client to be completely present. This can be done by asking them to close their eyes and focus on their breathing. To think about their intention for the class. The focus brings clarity and allows for new and creative thinking.
Harmony
Have we managed to create a trusting space?
It is critical to connect deeply with the client. Create a trusting space where the client has complete confidence that everything that is shared will be confidential and is open to the coaching process. This goes beyond clarifying the process that will be followed during coaching. It is building the belief that they (client) have to drive and own the agenda and that your only motivation is their progress and success. It must include acknowledgment and connecting at a personal level.
Awareness of Reality
- What is the issue that the client wants to discuss?
- What is happening now in the clients mind?
- What are they thinking about and need to resolve?
Getting the Client to share their current reality allows them to step back and think about the same. It is therefore important to give the client the time and space to share their current thinking.
