A Coaching Model Created by Raymond Wong Ying Chee
(Career Coach, SINGAPORE)
My coaching model is a five stages process with the word G.R.A.S.P for easy identification and use. GRASP as defined by the dictionary as “to seize and hold firmly”. We want to seize and hold firmly our goals and be in control of the situation.
Stage 1 – Goal
The aim here is to identify the goal and purpose for the coaching session. The goal must adhere to the SMART goal principle and the purpose of the outcome should be significant for the client to invest their time and energy to pursue.
Stage 2 – Reality
Here we take stock of the current situation. Questions to ask are:
Stage 3 – Against
What is standing against us from reaching our goals? Here we explore and identify the challenges, obstacles and any underlying issues that can block us from achieving our goals.
Stage 4 – Solutions
Having identified the problems in stage 3, we need to come up with viable solutions or options to overcome, remove or go around those problems. With clear solutions is like seeing light at the end of a tunnel.
Stage 5 – Plan
What is the plan? Nothing gets done without action. Hence it is important to create an action plan. By having an action plan we can track our progress and be accountable for our actions.
