Simply recognizing that you are in a state of judgment, is often enough to release it. Judgment is a human weakness that even the most reflective and self-aware human beings can fall into. We all make judgments. The answer is not to feel bad or wrong about judgment, after all, this would be judging you! The answer is to recognize the judgment, take a deep breath and then LET IT GO!!!
Underlying Beliefs
Underlying Beliefs are thoughts or beliefs, which we hold on to about ourselves, our world and those around us, often without even realizing we are doing it. Underlying Beliefs are unique to an individual The purpose of discerning and detecting Underlying Beliefs is to help the client gain awareness and hence help the client see the patterns of behavior that disempower or empower them. When a client discovers an Underlying Belief they are able to make decisions from a more powerful position because they have a greater amount of knowledge. They have the power of choice.
By using Underlying Beliefs to define these patterns clearly, we can then have a fresh perspective in order to take action outside of these old patterns of behavior. Therefore, we can create new opportunities where there were none before. It is like shining a light on something that has been lurking in the dark for some time so as to be able to deal with it effectively. It is very hard to address something when it is not visible and clear. However, by detecting an Underlying Belief, and facing it head on, it then becomes possible for us to change behavior.
Learning Application
The application of learning is where the client begins to see the path forward. They start to map out the direction they want to go forward in. If this moment doesn‘t occur then it is a good indication that the client has only intellectualized the change in perspective or the awareness of the situation rather than feeling it. Feeling it immediately gives the client the space to be able to move forward and create action. The action steps will also be aligned with where the client has not yet made the emotional shift.
Transformation
Transformation is all about achieving the desired sustainable change. Throughout the process of building relationships, using empathy, suspending Judgments , understanding the Underlying beliefs and application of learning, coach uses many other skills and attributes that they have. In addition the relationship the coach has with the client, is paramount to the success of creating a space that allows the client to feel open and trusting. Each step of the process requires the coach to see the areas of acknowledgement for the client. This will keep them enthused and supported as the coach holds their vision for them.
The new awareness so created helps the client understand the issues better, feel confident and create action leading to the desired change. Isn’t this transformation… the lasting change for good.
