Shine bright like a diamond
Special
“Everybody is special”. A coach will treat every client as a unique individual by respecting diversity and recognizing each person for his/her individual and unique strengths and talents.By definition a unique individual is a person who stands out in a crowd. Someone who isn’t afraid to show their hidden talent and let it shine. As humans, we all possess something special; whether that be some hidden talents; personality traits and / or life experiences. A coach should help the client discover and further enhance his or her strengths in order to get stronger and shine bright like a diamond as Rhianna sings in her famous song “Shine Bright like a diamond”.
Holistic
Means that we as coaches are interested in engaging and developing clients as a whole person and seeing them from various perspectives such as; physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. It is the concept that the human being is multidimensional and have conscious, unconscious, rational and irrational aspects of mind.
Intuition
The coach will access own intuition and trust one’s inner knowing. It’s important to trust yourself as a coach in order to build trust and rapport with the client. The coach has ability to easily and freely share observations, intuitions and feedback with the client without any attachments.Recognizing clients’ intuition is also an important step as this will enable direct communication and allow client to use his/her greatness, strengths, intuition, and different learning style as a critical part of coaching process.
Non-judgmental
The coach is non-judgmental and this is one of the most important skills in coaching. It is a foundation in building trust with the client and its coach’s role to remain neutral and maintain that mirroring figure throughout the coaching process. The coach is in partnership with the client and is not there to judge the client!!!
Explore
Coach should help the client explore all possible solutions by being curious and asking powerful questions. Listening at the deep level is necessary skill as this will foster asking powerful questions. Active listening requires more than just listening to what a client is saying; it means listening for the key words and clues, changes in the tone of the voice and body language. Upon discovering the change, coach needs to acknowledge it by asking simple but powerful questions such as: “How does it make you feel?”; “what is important for you right now?”, “What does it mean?” and etc. Exploring is an adventure, a journey that the coach takes on with the client in order for the client to gain awareness, revelation, disclosure and new opportunities.
Don’t be afraid to explore!
Stay curious!
