A Coaching Model Created by Namrata Arora
(Working Women In Transition Coach, INDIA)
The Growth Cube coaching model is based on the premise that the purpose of coaching is eventually, growth. While the client grows by being able to identify his / her key issue(s), the coach grows as well.
The model is based on three key steps which facilitate growth:
a) Growth Goal identification
Identifying a growth goal can be initiated even before a client and coach have the first formal coaching session. Post having an initial discussion about what the client expects, the coach might choose to get the client to fill out a document which has some questions which are enablers to helping the client in isolating and identifying his / her key growth goal. This could then be used as the base for the first discussion between the client and the coach.
b) Awareness Generation
The coach and the client start an exploratory dialog, going through the client’s background and experiences, wherein the coach attempts to get the client to introspect and be aware of his / her life situation and the factors that led to it. It is this generation of awareness which is critical for the success of the coaching relationship. This usually takes the longest in any coaching process though the hallmark of a great coach is to enhance awareness with every conversation. This could be brought about by asking powerful questions, by sharing relevant analogies and by leaving the client with some thinking work to do as a preparation for the next session.
c) Action for Growth
Action is critical for progress and for ensuring the client moves towards his / her growth goals. Through conversations, the coach helps the client uncover his / her fears / roadblocks to enable him / her to move ahead towards accomplishing the identified goal. It is important to ensure that the some milestones have been identified and accomplishment of those is celebrated as they signify movement towards the goal.
Why Growth Cube?
A cube has 6 facets, made of three pairs (one pair has two opposite facets). The Growth Cube coaching model assumes that each step is a result of behaviors / characteristics that are expected to be demonstrated by the client and the coach in conjunction.
The three steps outlined above are, hence, produced as a reaction to the joint actions / behaviors demonstrated by the coach and the client as follows:
All the above 3 pairs come together to form the 6 facets of the Growth Cube.
