M3 – Mindful, Meaningful, Movement
-
Be Mindful
Pay keen attention to what is being said verbally and non verbally. Focus with deep attention and conscious listening – be present with the client and listen with your eyes and intuition too, to pick up communication that may not be verbalized. Ensure one’s own mental / emotional chatter or interference is kept away.
-
Be Meaningful
Discover the desired outcome of why the client has brought up the specific concern. What does he/she want? What is the positive intent and purpose behind the coaching request? Try to discern if the issue is being addressed at an intellectual mind level or it is being addressed with emotion from a feeling level. The understanding of NLP can help in determining which part of the body is the breath coming from and therefore what that indicates. Above the chest indicates an intellectual expression. Below the chest, indicates an emotional expression.
-
Movement
Reconfirm client’s intent and motivation to address his / her issue. Question client about his her intent to take action to help himself / herself to resolve and move forward. You may want to set some foundational framework to enable client to benefit from the coaching by co-creating a framework for movement post every coaching session.
P3 – Position, Perception, Paraphrase
-
Position
Explore what is the position the client currently holds about himself / herself in terms of his/her own capabilities in handling the issue at hand. Open probe to determine more details of this position. Find out if there are any mental or emotional blocks that lock in this position. Explore what gets the client to hold this position.
-
Perception
Determine the underlying beliefs and values that the client is holding and the frame through which he perceives this situation or other similar situations. This is where you may ask “powerful questions”. Ask questions here that bring current perception of client with client’s desired outcome together. Often this helps the client to see what he/she needs to see. Remember however, that the questioning has to be aligned to the clients agenda exclusively.
-
Paraphrase
Question back what the client is saying for clarity in communication and in thought. Paraphraze with what is being said vs. what is not being said to further facilitate clarity in the client’s mind.
O3 – Outcome, Ownership, Options
- Outcome – Get the client to elaborate on what he / she wants to see happening by the end of the coaching session. What is the vision and goal that the client would like to see as the outcome? One can use the visualization tool here to manifest the clients aspirations, powered by the clients own positive intent, drive and motivation.
- Ownership – Explore and facilitate the client to commit on actions. This is where many doubts and procrastination may surface which need to be addressed. Get the client to become aware of his/her priorities and therefore ownership outcomes. Reinforce and support the client’s positive energy that comes from his / her vision. Support the client in creating a structure so that he/she is able to walk the path to his /her destination.
- Options – Explore with the client the different ways and alternate choices and resources that he/she may work with to further optimize outcomes and effectiveness. What is the support that he/she could garner to enable him/her to achieve the vision and goals.
W3 – Wonder, Wishes, Way
- Wonder – Here one could get the client to “wonder” through a discovery path to further add energy, ideas and innovative thoughts to facilitate his/her vision and goals. Reconnecting to the desired outcome and client purpose can further energize the dream. This explores potentials that may be, have not as yet, been discovered. It enables and fans curiosity and spontaneity of the client.
- Wishes – Here you facilitate the client to dream beyond his/her reality and arrive at what his / her wish list engaging the imagination, could be. It opens new spaces of possibilities and play. Also engage the client in recalling past “wish lists” he may have had and actually made happen.
- Way – Here get the client to go through a rediscovering path on how he/she leveraged his/her strengths, passions and strategies to fulfill past achievements and goals. Question if any of these paths can help the client now in the clients current concerns.
