Webster dictionary defines “Breathe” as:
- To inhale and exhale
- To LIVE
- To halt for rest
- To utter softly or secretly
Under the word “Breath” the fifth definition is SPIRIT.
The process of breathing is both involuntary and voluntary and so is controlled by both the Autonomic Nervous System (controlling visceral body functions) and the Somatic Nervous System (voluntary control). Our life, just as our breath, can function on a purely auto-pilot mode being orchestrated by things outside of our control or, we can take a conscious and active role in its development and function. For our SPIRIT to truly LIVE in this existence we must inhale and exhale, halt for rest and secretly and softly utter our dreams, desires and intentions into the sacred space of our Higher Being.
Breathe And Expand Your Space. Explore And Envision The Possibilities.
By breathing both physically and symbolically around a thought, belief, value or situation we can create a space, an opening, and a field of possibilities that can be explored. The physical act of breathing, fully and consciously, creates a calm and focused mind which is more receptive to expanding the scope of our sometimes limiting view point and belief systems. A visual example of this would be to curl your fingers into a loose fist with a small hole in it, like a “scope”. Now look through the hole at a picture or out of a window. If you went through life only “looking through the scope” that would be the only vision of life that you have. By expanding the hole or removing your “scope” (breathing into the space) you can see a much broader and potential reality. Only you can truly see your true vision. This is your journey and your process.
The “Breathe” step can be used during all phases of this model whenever focus is needed, an obstacle is hit or to create a broader perspective. It is the calm and opening brought to the mind in order to ask important questions, for example:
Refine & Articulate The Vision And Reframe Perspectives
Once a vision has been created it is time to bring a sharper focus to the details. Being more specific and detail oriented begins to ground the vision and discussing it makes it more “real”. It is important to look at the vision as it will apply to all aspects of one’s life. How will it fit in? In this phase it may be necessary to “reframe perspectives”, or change how we look at ourselves and our lives in order to make our dream work. It’s sort of like re-painting and re-cutting the puzzle picture instead of trying to make pieces fit that no longer work.
