A Coaching Model Created by Jennifer Gare
(Transformational coach, CANADA)
This past year I allowed myself to pause, to stand still, right where I was in my life, in my story. I have been a work in progress over the past 15 years, since I found myself starting over, in so many ways, when my life changed dramatically and my marriage of 21 years came to an end. This year the “work” was transformational and life changing. The difference for myself was having the opportunity to have a confidential, safe, non-judgmental space filled with support ,curiosity and empathy which allowed me to find my courage to open up out loud, to trust the process of self- discovery from the place of where I was actually standing. Discovering that “where you are is never who you are”, its a starting place. I was able to “show up”, explore my belief system, define what I want, move thru my story to a place of choice.
The combination of my life experiences, this past year learning the skills of becoming a coach, the experience of being a client (having a coach on a regular basis), has molded my coaching model of “Right Here, Right Now”. With all the above taken into consideration, with the intent to get to the truth of who you are, and to help others to pause, right where they are, here and now, slowing down enough to invest in yourself and get curious.
The simplicity of my coaching model is the authenticity of commitment to ourselves. The “Right Here, Right Now”, the client can begin their self-discovery process in the present moment. There are 3 steps within the model, each step is very respectful and mindful that this is led by the client to find their answers within, it’s very personal, as only they can meet themselves 100%, as no one else can do that for them, within a trusted, safe, confidential and very supported space.
Right Here – starting place – “How do you see yourself right now?” ‘Who are you?” “ What is the opinion of yourself when you think of yourself right now?
The client gets comfortable in the present moment of their life and to begins to explore and get curious. In this place of “ right here”, a honest discovery begins which can bring awareness and movement towards becoming intimate with themselves.
Right Now – in the middle – “What does your own voice sound like?” What would you do if you were true to you?” “Describe what it would be like to meet you for the first time?” “What choice can you make that would reveal yourself to the world?” “‘How would you show up, no matter what happens to you?” ‘How do you want to feel?”
Getting to the truth of who you are! This part of the process requires the client to be very brave and vulnerable. With support, acknowledgement, and empathy, the client has the space to get very curious, with courage, to take a close look and question the perspectives and beliefs that have been shaping their life. They explore finding their truth which allows them to move out of their story, to a place of choice and new vision. The “shift” begins here.
Set the Picture – the vision- “What does living in alignment with your true self look like?” “What do I want to be feeling the most in my life?” “What could be the first step you take to move forward?” “Does this choice align with the things/feelings that are important to me?” “What’s the highest choice I can make in this moment?” “Am I leading with love?” “What evidence do you have to prove to yourself that you can do this?”
Be intentional of what you want to create. This is the place where action steps are explored towards the client’s vision of moving forward and living in alignment with their core values.
The client has all the answers, as the coach, I am the “vision holder.” My relationship with the client is to see the potential in my client and to help them discover their relationship to their truths. This sets the foundation for further coaching sessions.
