A Coaching Model Created by Jennifer Armstrong
(Strategic Planning Coach, UNITED STATES)
The Mission-Forward coaching model is based upon the principal that we all have the answers deep within us, at our core. In order to move forward to achieve goals, or succeed in a mission, we must first discover what is at our core, make a commitment and take action. This principal works for both individuals and organizations, so it may be used in virtually any area of coaching, whether business or life coaching.
The key to this model is to start at the center, the core, and then build outward. Rather than moving to a new and distinct stage as one progresses through the process, however, each outer layer still embodies the previous stages, allowing the process to remain grounded on the previous work, with the core remaining at the center. It also allows coaches and clients to return inward as needed to further explore new awarenesses or obstacles that arise during the process and adjust commitments and actions in order to maximize their potential for moving their mission forward toward success.
A final attribute is that the model is rooted in action: discover, commit, act and succeed. Rather than using more passive words like discovery, commitment, action and success, these words were used intentionally to allow clients to own the process and feel empowered to use it actively to move forward. This model is intended to be simple, integrated and accessible to allow for maximum usability, and ultimately, move clients forward in their mission.
Specifically, this is what clients can expect at each stage in the process:

We will start right where you are. We will take stock of the strengths that will serve as your tools and the opportunities that will help you along the way. We will examine the weaknesses and threats that may hold you back and determine the best way to avoid them – or better yet, to turn them around. We will explore the values, anti-values and beliefs that may serve as your compass. We will look at your wealth of experiences, passions and interests and clarify your goals –both your wants and your needs. We will discover what is at your core: how you can uniquely contribute and which direction lights you up.
