Engage
Based on the Start outcome, the Coaching intervention is intended to take the Client through transformational (not transactional) exercise, the latter’s engagement in the entire exercise will be positive and close to perfect.
Step 1 : Awareness (of Self and Defined Issue)
- The Coach through brief meditation exercise shall make the client to check as to where the issue (problem) is felt within the body. For eg.
- If the disturbance is in tummy part, then the issue is coming from the feelings
- If the disturbance is in heart, then the issue is coming from the client’s values
- If the disturbance is in forehead, then the issue is coming from the mind.
Post meditation, the Coach makes the client understand the point (source) of conflict and that enables client to focus his action plan relatively.
b) The Coach shall apply appropriate self assessment tools (Strength Finder, DISC, FIROB, etc.) and share assessment outcomes with the client. The assessment outcome conveys the client to check the gap between his strength to handle the issue vs his own desired results.
Step 2 : Self Management
With the self awareness record on hand, the client with the support of the coach shall move to self management step :
a) Write down the desired results
b) Set the Goals (& breakdown milestones) to reach the desired goals
c) Write down the action plans
d) Set the check point calendar (time/date/week/month) – for self actions, intervention
dates with client, schedule dates for interaction with others who are direct/indirect
participants for this issue resolution.
e) Start working as per the calendar
Review/Reset
Many a times, the Coaching intervention fails because the client is stuck in-between the desired results vs the condition of the issue itself. Hence it could be the responsibility of the Coach in helping the client to rebuild the road map to support the client’s intent to reach the desired goal.
Step 1
a) Coach shall visit the client as per pre-agreed calendar date(s)
b) Review the actions taken by the client vs the pre-defined milestone
c) Energize the client through positive acknowledgement & appreciation for all the positive progress handled by the client
Step 2
a) Client & the Coach shall jointly revisit the break-down mile stone & action plans recorded in previous meetings.
b) Enable the client to express & write down the problems he is facing while executing such action plans
c) Recheck the problem statement against break-down action plans and check the gaps.
d) If appropriate, re-define the problem statement and align the action plans accordingly.
With this, the Coach propels the self confidence of the Client and assures clearance of obstacles coming in the path of client’s desired results.
Take Away
In the interest of client’s self development, the Coach shall advice the Client to record every aspect of their engagement.
a) The Client shall document all relevant conversation held with the Coach relevant to his own issues.
b) Document all the action plans and revised action plans
c) Document the success & failure occurred during the course of action plans.
d) Document the reviews discussed during each coaching engagement for subsequent coaching session reviews & action plans.
e) Coach shall influence the client to record all experiential learning the client have faced / enjoyed during the entire course of engagement.
f) It should be of absolute advantage for the client to use this record to self coach himself for other issues in his priority list.
