This will help the client in understanding the possibilities and steps needed to bridge the gap between the present snapshot and the desired state .
This is where the skills of active listening, powerful questioning will be useful.
This will set the stage for reflective conversation.
Understanding
Some of the possible questions using Appreciative Inquiry to understand could be:
AI was Initially designed to be an OD tool for bringing in large organizational changes.
R– Reflective conversation
The aim at this stage is to review. Reframe perspectives and take positives and build on them,. There will be Obstacles stopping the client getting from where they are now to where they want to go.
Once Obstacles have been identified, the client needs to find ways of dealing with them if they are to make progress. This is the stage where multiple options are generated and considered. This is the stage where plans are made and resources are identified.
E – Execute
This is the stage where the options are identified.
If there are issues of an emotional nature which are resolved completely, there may not be any further steps. In most cases, this will be the stage to plan action steps.
This would generate a list of:
Tasks agreed to be completed by the client
Time frame by when the client commits to achieve it.
There are situations in coaching where you may encounter some mixed signals. As the coaching session unfolds there maybe some of the following signals.

STEADY GREEN ARROW SIGNAL
This means that you can continue with the plan. When the client is satisfied with the outcome, you can move on to Execution
FLASHING AMBER SIGNAL
This is a cautionary sign.. Here you may need to go back to the Reflective conversation
FLASHING RED SIGNAL
If there is a signal that something is not going well, as a coach we need to track back to taking a Snapshot and starting over.
Signs to watch out
Green: Relaxed voice, high energy levels.
Amber: Clear about the goals and the situation and ready for the action stage
Red: Client not responding, displaying helplessness or refusing to explore
Road Block…. Client is looking or sounding ill or is very distracted or dragging their feet. The session may need to be terminated and rescheduled.
