A Coaching Model Created by Dhruva Sen
(Executive Coach, INDIA)
Coaching is unique from other interventions; the coach has no activist role, he helps to create the solution which is unique to the client. This is what makes Coaching Client centered. Given the above premise, the question which is often asked by the un-initiated is what role Coaching plays in the process of arriving at a solution. The solution is the client’s and the process is also the client. This model attempts to address that by specifying the unique contribution of coaching process. The uniqueness lies in visualization and then anchoring the feelings which helps it to overcome the hurdles of underlying beliefs and mental blocks.
Visualization helps to create the mental maps which precede the movement. I think therefore I am. The whole emphasis being on future, examination of blocks becomes secondary to the mapping of the future as the examination would not lead to forward movement. Blocks would not propel the forward movement and hence it is secondary.
What triggers the forward movement?
It is listening and feed-forward questions.Feed-forward creates a momentum of its own as it skirts the resistance. Change is quicker as we quickly establish a stakeholder relationship. Listening creates a dynamic loop with feed-forward and this makes the movement happen. It is also important to anchor the feelings on a steady state basis.
