Coaching Process (what happens in a session)
Dig In:
Throughout the coaching process, the client takes a deep breath, figuratively and maybe literally, and steps into a place of sharing stories and feelings and ideas and goals. Think of a new plot of land that is being prepared for a garden. The ground has yet to be turned. The client brings their shovel and begins to turn the earth to reveal what lies beneath the surface of their thoughts and feelings.
Open Up:
Once the client gains more comfort in unearthing the positive and negative pieces of who they think and feel they are, through tools and powerful questions the coach guides the client to a new level of understanding. At this stage, the client opens up to a new (or renewed) awareness of who they truly are and what really makes them tick. At this level, transformation may occur that energizes the client and generates hope to be more, do more, and give more to their world. The client continues to turn over the soil and fertilizes the soil in preparation for planting.
Initiate:
With new fresh awareness fired by a surge of hope, the client lays out a plan of action for reaching beyond their present comfort zone. This involves some risk, but their action will be infused with clarity of mind and spirit. The client will identify a support team to cheer them on as they move forward in uncharted territory. The client plants new seeds in their life and sets up support stakes for the new growth yet to come.
Trust:
In the midst of attempts to move forward with these action steps, the client may face unforeseen barriers. At this point, the client lets go and trusts the Universe to be there for them. Faith and resiliency open up the client to opportunities for self-correction along the way. Throughout this stage, the client learns to forgive themselves when the way they initially embarked on in the Initiate stage is not going smoothly. The client and the coach watch the small shoots break forth from the earth. The client nurtures their actions by watering and weeding to make way for the harvest of good intention and purposeful action. Still – this final stage of the model may find the client re-engaging in the Dig In Stage where they recheck their internal compass in seeking even more self-awareness and understanding as they continue to hone in on their True North. Continuous Improvement is inherent in this model. There is good earth for growing in us all!
A positive coaching experience with new growth!
