A Coaching Model for a Leader’s Personal Development
YOUR ROADMAP for Self Discovery as a Leader
Discover who are you for the people you are leading. What makes you who you are? A coach is someone who asks questions to have you discover the many layers of influences that made you who you are. As you become aware of early influences that impact your decision-making, reactions, perceptions, and receptivity, you develop a keen sense of choice. You might even discover some underlying beliefs, family communication patterns, or behavioral habits that don’t serve what you are up to. You can choose new ways of being, that are accepting, less reactive, and supportive of your people. You will see new possibilities for your leadership style.
Relate powerfully- Travelers need to know the language of where they are going…just as leaders need to relate powerfully with their employees, clients, and other leaders. How do your employees perceive you? Are you accessible to them? Do you listen to what they are dealing with and what they are challenged by? Do you understand what threatens them? Do you often poke fun at yourself? Coaching can even offer an opportunity to expand your abilities to relate, including your ability to forgive and accept others, leaving a space of possibility. Tap into the collective intelligence of your organization to get creative solutions you never imagined possible.
Integrate- the track to your solid success. The ability to be mindfully present, and to be aware of the physical reactions you have such as anxiety and frustration are part of the solid foundation you need to further your abilities as a leader. Just as you can develop your capacity to lead from a centered place, and to sort out feelings that are not necessarily good influences on decisions, you can also develop your intuitive nature, your ability to trust an inner “hunch.”
A coach can support you in identifying your playfulness, the source of creativity. With intuition and playfulness, your creativity is boundless. Sometimes having someone to encourage you (and even give you permission) to participate in activities that are playful and intuitive can open new doors to possibilities, and impact your perception.
Verbalize – Express your vision, communicate in a way that inspires, enrolls, and challenges.
Learn to create conversations in which people experience a sense of trust, partnership, and loyalty. And, you can develop a powerful communication that is direct, yet compassionate. People need to feel accepted as human beings yet capable of extraordinary, unreasonable accomplishments.
Encourage- Zero in where people are being stopped, where they doubt themselves. Learn to acknowledge people in the most powerful way possible, that they are committed to live up to the acknowledgement! And refuel your own ability to reframe situations in a way that is both inspiring to you and to others. The journey to your destination will exceed your expectations bringing a new dawn of possibility.
