I think everybody should study ants. They have an amazing four-part philosophy. Never give up, look ahead, stay positive, and do all you can. –Jim Rohn
Individuals today find themselves plagued with struggles such as: not being in control of their lives, not feeling content in their journey’s and/or not feeling fulfilled due to circumstances. Young adults tend to feel trapped in a vicious circle and struggle to find their way out. Their perspectives emerge from certain thoughts that trigger emotions and that specific emotion emits a negative vibration.
How can one identify such obstacles and create awareness of what is needed to be changed internally and what is missing? This is divided into four levels:
Awareness:
What is the one thing that drove the client to have this coaching session?
Sometimes it’s pain, and other times it’s noticing the need to change. The coach works towards understanding the WHO of the client:
Identifying the values that represent the client; what are the main foundations that define their beliefs, behavior, attitude, and assumptions? Set forth on an emotional discovery session to understand the values further. Learning what the client values and eliminating what they don’t; this creates more focus towards:
Creating awareness – One of the main tools in coaching is assisting the client to have a better understanding of their own self. Depending on the client’s current circumstances, they would pinpoint which areas need to be explored. Getting clarity about one’s self is a great starting point for the client to have during the coaching journey. This helps in shifting the mindset towards positivity, allowing them to be more appreciative and conscious of the decisions to be taken. One of the tools to be used in this session is a personality test. It will assist the client to create a clear understanding of their behavioral traits.
Identifying the pillars that represent the client’s life will include the use of the Wheel of Life which will measure the different pillars. By numbering each pillar, the client will have clarity on some of the areas that require more focus.
I am able to control only that of which I am aware. That of which I am unaware controls me. Awareness empowers me.– Sir John Whitmore.
Need
Define the goal and identify the desired outcome.
A client might have a topic to explore or a discovery session may be conducted to identify the areas the client desires to work on.
Brainstorm several goal ideas that emerge and narrow it down to the one the client values the most.
Setting the expectation.
The goal will be the starting point and the main driver for the action plan.
Setting the intention, as the client works towards the goal it is vital to align the actions with it.
The intent is there in our subconscious mind and is represented in our actions, behaviors, and attitudes. Once we have clear conscious awareness of the intents, the client’s approach towards the actions will be clear.
Mindfulness – Another tool to be used is guided meditation sessions that will enable the client to have focus and visual clarity on the goal and how it will be manifested at the end of the journey.
Transform
What is an area that requires development?
Start with the areas that the client doubts the most and create a new foundation to build upon. The client can then identify what and where to focus on as well as the areas that require growth and development.
What solution do you think will be the best option to overcome this obstacle?
Underlying Belief–these beliefs can be negative or positive. Negative underlying beliefs continually sabotage our attempts at creating a meaningful life; they’re limiting us in some way. Positive underlying beliefs can support our life; they energize us and give us meaning. We may make difficult decisions based on either the underlying beliefs that may have developed in our past. The client is set to discover those beliefs through the exploration of feelings and the thoughts that emerge.
Identify the new possibilities the client wants to create to overcome those underlying beliefs.
Mindset shift –changing perspective is a key tool that enables the client to shift from one mindset to the other (negative to a positive). Direct their attention to creation, growth, and results.
Everything begins with a thought and thoughts are turned into plans and plans into reality- Marshall Sylver
Target
Moving towards action &fulfillment.
To reach the End is simply to bridge the Gap between what aches the client and what the client desires. That is achieved by doing the following:
- Setting up a SMART plan with achievable milestones from start to finish. Having specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely goals are a great way to keep clients on track. Working towards these milestones empowers the client to push past adversity and focus on fulfillment.
- Finding the tools needed to assist in the client’s growth and development.
- Creating a monitoring process for the client to keep track of their progress.
- Having clients hold themselves accountable until the goal is achieved.
What motivates us? Some say praise, some say pleasure, some say economics. Maybe, superficially, but not deep down. The most basic fundamental, driving motivator in humanity today is the hunger for freedom.
People die trying to be free. They take risks, they invest their souls, they connect with others hoping, searching, and working to be free. People don’t die for lower prices. – Stewart Hughes
