3. Empower
Once the awareness is created the next step in the role the coach plays is to help empower the development and change and commit to action.
The coach plays an important part to help the client identify, try out and interrogate new and different behaviours in pursuit of their intended goal.
The coach also supports the client in creating possibilities for action, it is unconditional but challenging support for the client in experimenting with new behaviours to achieve the end goal.

Application of the Model:
This model is a framework and is applicable to various scenarios and forms of Coaching Professional/Business/Life/Career etc.
This model focuses on 3 things
- Contracting with the client
- Structure the coaching conversation
- Focus on the outcomes and help the client achieve this
This model can be used for the regular coaching conversations you have with your client. The client brings to the conversation a possible list of things to be discussed. This model can represent the process for just one coaching conversation, but it can also represent the overall journey.. The coach’s and the client’s perspectives will be unique and different. In working with the client, you bring not just perspective but also become the enabler for the client to take action.
This ties into the GROW model in to following ways:
Goals= Establish
Reality=Explore
Options=Empower
Will=Evaluate
Goal = Establish
This is the first step in Identifying what we want to achieve puts us on the path to achieving it and focuses on the solution rather than the problem. The establish section of the 4 E model refers to the Goals section of the GROW model to keep the focus moving forward.
Reality = Explore
This is an exploration of where the client or coachee is right now. It is essential to spend time here so that the client can find out what needs to be looked at. Once the Coachee has everything in view, he or she will perceive greater clarity and different perspectives, so that ideas will occur naturally on how to move forward.
Asking exploratory questions enables the client to step back from their emotions, see the situation clearly, and decide how to move on.
Options = Empower
This about brainstorming all possibilities, not just the ones that appeal to the coachee. This also is challenging the client to come up with insights. As a coach yoju listen and question with intent in order to have the client think reflect and choose options.
Will/Way forward = Evaluate
Anything that needs to get done, requires some sort of action. It also needs energy to keep things moving. The final step in this model is to ensure that your client to commit to specific action. In so doing, your client can establish motivation.
