Self-limitations are barriers that a client constructs for themselves, preventing them from seeing the full scope of possibilities and being their most genuine and powerful selves. Self-empowerment is essential for a client’s shift and achievement of their goal. I’d like to call this shift in viewpoint the “self-limitation vs. self-empowerment” power tool because it transforms the client from a bystander to a participant in the circumstance.

Coaching and therapy complement each other. Past events, triggers, and traumas are addressed in therapy. It’s about healing and is set in the past. Coaching entails moving ahead. What are your long-term goals and how are you starting to achieve them now? From personal experience, I know that the two work well together. I’ve seen myself change as a result of my life coaching experience. I am a shy, timid person with a lot of self-limiting beliefs. In therapy, I was able to unearth “shoulds” and scripts that I had believed I had to follow and be stuck in. I discovered that I was not living in my truth through coaching. I discovered where those toxic tendencies came from and how to question my history through therapy.

Although trust is difficult to explain, we can feel and recognize when it is gone or lost. When this happens, our energy and engagement levels drop, and we may feel anxious, distrustful, avoidant, uncertain, or insecure. To help our clients transition from fear vs. trust, we must first help them recognize that fear is present and, where applicable, that it is driving their actions.
