Coaches come to coaching from all walks of life, all professions, all industries. In this video we see how a Music Professor realised her one on one sessions with her students every week were actually COACHING.
Julia Mattern talks about her ‘wake up call”, for her it was the death of her father, and how that prompted her into taking action and doing something she had always wanted to do. We find this a lot at ICA – coaches experiencing a loss, or a transformation of some sort that brings into clarity that sense of life being an amazing precious gift that we get to live – but only once.
The metaphor of the bowling alley is a great one – it is absolutely what a coach does – act as teh barrier at the sides of your life, to keep you focussed on those pins, and stop you from falling into the gutter.

Julie also talks about the importance of getting a credential, the extra authority it gives her with clients and the sense of belonging that comes from joining a professional field.
84% of Adult Consumers who had experienced a coaching relationship reported that it was important for coaches to hold a credential
If you are interested in pursuing a coach credential you can join a real live coach training class at ICA and see what it’s like to learn a module alongside our enrolled students.
