A Coaching Model Created by Venkatraghavan Chittambakkam

A Model can be a noun and a verb. The intent of the next few pages is to bring to life this Coaching Model as both.
As a Noun – to represent this as a prototype of the Coaching Process
As a Verb – to give you (the reader) a glimpse of the shape of a Coaching Conversation
This model is a unique representation of how the author views his role as a coach, how the author intends to support his clients and how the author demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to ICF standards in his Coaching.
This write up seeks to give you 3 views:
a. The Coach View
b. The Client View

I (the author) am a visual person. I am a sensing person. I make sense of my world in these 2 ways. This Coaching model has 5 rings. Imagine 5 Hula Hoops with varying diameters stacked on top of each other in 3D space, in descending order, largest ring first. The outer most ring is all permeating holding the core which is Doing Work in the Here and Now. The imagery I hold is each outer ring holds all the inner rings to it, in a manner of holding a baby, a nurturing manner. Aligned with who I am; the process and work are held and supported by Space, Acknowledgement and Feelings.
At this time, refer to the table on Page 2.
a. Creating Awareness
b. Creating Actions
c. Creating Plans and Measuring Progress
The Name – Opening the Field comes from what a Coaching Journey with me seeks to do.
I seek to foster a deep relationship and through nurturing create an experience for the journey a client seeks to undertake. This model is meant to support anyone committed to Doing Work, on and with themselves, in the present (here & now) to move forward. I define moving forward as Exploring, Experiencing and Evolving – thereby Opening, the Field previously known to newer realms. This is beyond Doing; it is about Being!
This resonates with my Power Tool:
Boundaries vs. Fluidity – aimed at creating and upholding one’s identity in the world. This model can be used for any situation. However what this model seeks to do is create a deep experience in the journey.
This model is intended to be additive and exponential rather than being linear.
The Coach View
a. Ring 1 – The coach holds the Space for everything to transpire in this relationship with the Client.
b. Ring 2 – The Coach acknowledges wins, gratitude, take away, insights, break through, etc. What you pay attention to grows. The Coach pays attention to opportunities to draw the clients’ attention to in order to further grow that area.
c. Ring 3 – The Coach fosters an environment of being in touch how one is feeling at a given moment. All our actions create feelings and the first step towards evolution is getting in touch with them, getting adept at articulating them and as once advances is to be deliberate about the interplay of actions and feelings.
d. Ring 4 – This comprises of the coaching process – how we do the work and is broadly outlined below. It is fluid and takes shape depending on what is required in a given space, determined by the Client, with an attempt to engage in all steps.
e. Ring 5 – The Coach facilitates a space encouraging the client to engage in active mental effort towards exploring & experiencing a desired state of being or awareness or purpose, leading to personal evolution.
The Client View
a. Ring 1 – The client can expect a space that is trusting & intimate allowing them to do work.
b. Ring 2 – The client acknowledges what they want to grow, what they want to let go and what they want to create.
c. Ring 3 – The client learns to feel, articulate this feeling and create an active interplay of feelings and actions; turning cause and effect on its head, may be.
d. Ring 4 – The client undertakes a journey supported by open, explorative and curious questions allowing them to create a reality of their own making. The client chooses to take the journey in any direction, at any pace, towards any goal.
e. Ring 5 – The client by being vulnerable, truthful and accepting of themselves engages in exploring & experiencing a desired state of being or awareness or purpose, leading to growth and evolution. The client does the work.
